I don't know what year we rode but the Sportster was 3.6" in '01 and 4.1" in '06. That's no good if I'm thinking about something that has 3.5". :?

Bottoming the rear suspension is easily fixed, I'd think. Have you looked to see if there are any aftermarket rear suspension options?
