Adult Baseball League

Hey guys, this might be a long shot, I dunno. I was looking to get involved in an adult baseball league in the area - and it seems like there are two or three. Anyone know what the "good" one is? More specifically, if you know of any teams having open gyms and such that'd be great - been a while since I played, it'd be nice to get into a cage and able to throw with some people first, heh.

If you dont know, maybe you have friends that play in a league or something. Thanks

i'd be willing to practice and throw around on free weekends. my friend Donny knows of a good adult wooden league he was trying to get me to join. It's kind of expensive and time consuming (2 practices during the week and 4 games on weekends for 8 weeks or something).

i'll get the name of the league - it's a DC Metro league

Yeah - one of the leagues was $300, (not sure if you had to pay any more the rest of the season, or if there was much travel involved) which seemed pretty reasonable to me. The games i think are usually double headers - 7 innings each I think.

I have nothing but free time really, might be pretty fun. I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but the next one we should go throw. I gotta get my arm back in shape. Ive been working out, but that does NOTHING for getting your arm in a shape to throw or pitch, lol.

There are a few adult leagues, I was looking to join - but the minimum age was 25 last I checked. And doing research, a lot of the guys that play are ex college ball players that did not make it.

I just want to play some pick up baseball

They have 18+ leagues, and it seems like there is no maximum age to each league, so if you start in the 18+ league, you can play as long as you want, as long as you can keep making the team

softball just isn't the same as baseball - sure it's fun, but comparing the two is a joke.

anyone who has played competitive baseball in HS or post HS will know this. It's still fun, but it's just not the same. I also played in a few Wakka kickball leagues...it sucked, i'm not going to lie. I'd much rather play flag football or baseball for recreational leagues.

The leagues my friend knows about were $700-$800/person - 2 double-headers a weekend and were 9 innings each game. They travel all around the DC area and the minimum age i believe is 23, but they have age brackets in the league. I think most of the players are old collegiate and former minor leaguers. All wooden bats and he says the pitching is difficult to handle as some of the teams just have pitchers on their rosters.

If my schedule were more flexible i'd be willing to join one actually and get back into it. I'll find out the league name and the info shortly.

I dont know how I'd do in a league full of old minor-leaguers...probably not too good.

The next step below that, probably do OK in. Whatever that is. I have had several coaches email me - one of the teams that seems the most competitive is a wooden bat league - maybe that's what your friend was playing in. All the dcmsbl.com teams are -3 metal bats from what I gather.

Where you live Jason? Maybe we can get to a park sometime and throw for a while next weekend or something (I'm out of town this weekend)

Also - it has not so much to do with being manly. Pitching is a good part of the game, and you pretty much lose that in softball (especially if you like to pitch). Plus, most softball leagues..with a few exceptions..kind of have a who gives a shit attitude, they're playing strictly for fun. I'd rather play in something a little more serious than that.

i think in central va, thats quite the opposite. softball here in charlottesville is very serious mainly because 90% of the teams are redneck teams. yeah, it doesnt have the pitching aspect, but softball pitching is a whole new strategy on its own. you cant just toss up meat to hit, you gotta pick your spots. sometimes i do miss baseball, but i remember when i lost the passion to play baseball. i think softball here treads that fine line so i kinda get both competitive and have fun. plus its just another excuse to drink afterwards.

In Harrisonburg, softball is very competitive. City league is rediculous there and they will not keep you long unless you are good. Of course, there's also a very competitive baseball league too, several actually. But alas, we are in Nova, and I cannot play church softball this year, as I have no church here.

The reason you are having a problem finding an adult baseball league is because baseball is what boys do to pass the time while men are out playing soccer or other macho sports.
