Opinions on S60R and Legacy spec.B
#1
I've read a shitload of reviews on the internet and countless threads on HT but I'm curious what the people here think. As 3 years is the kiss of death for car ownership for me I'll probably unload my car later this year. I thought I was pretty dead set on a B6 S4 but I've always had a thing for the S60R. I sat in one this past weekend at the Auto Show and it was actually really comfortable. Anyone ever owned, driven or rode in one?

Here's my list of wants and needs so everyone can tell me why a car not mentioned is a much better choice.

*Manual - Do I really need to explain this one?
*4 Doors - Call me old but I really like being able to cram crap in the back seat with ease.
*Warranty - I'm a warranty whore, although it didn't get me shit this time around
*2004+ - I'm a firm believer that you should be buying a car newer than your last if you're spending the cash.
*Import - Nothing about American cars impress me, period.
*35k or less - I've had no car payment first time in 8 years and it's glorious. I want to keep it that way.
*AWD - Playing in the snow, what little we have, is a huge plus for me.
*225+ bhp - My last two cars were an E36 M3 and B5 S4, you do the math.
*Leather - Last two cars have been leather and I'm just used to it.
*Heated Seats - What can I say, I like my ass being toasty in the winter.
*Satellite Radio - Always said my next car would have it.
*SatNav - Same as above but this is more a luxury item.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

The V8 S4 makes too many awesome noises not to buy it...... and full time AWD unlike the volvos.

I'm personally a fan of the Legacy turbo... car handles very well, AWD, and it has a nice little turbo to boot without the lag found on it's counterparts. Plus you can source a new one / '06 still on the lot loaded for $26-27K if you shop around.

everything i've heard points out the S60R as a very competent tourer, but not much beyond. apparently the suspension is not particularly compliant (although i've heard the same about most modern audi S cars) and as RJ mentioned, you're all FWD until it decides otherwise as compared to split at all times.

that said, the engine is pretty compelling and if i had to compare the V8 rumble to an I-5 wail, it'd be a tossup...

stick with the S4, it's faster anyway

I saw one on the road the other day with a touring car-esque splitter, and it looked positively badass.

looked just like this (except with the stock grille not the ricer one)

This is pretty much what they had at the auto show last weekend. The splitter is a must-get imo.

A friend bought one. It looks great, has really plush seats though it is a little too soft for sporty driving. The satnav comes out of the top of the dash which is cool. Not too many folks have them so another big plus.

Downsides are that it doesn't drive very well. Granted, I was only allowed to drive it twice but I thought the car was a little slow for the money, brakes weren't that great eventhough it has massive calipers and the steering was slow.

I would think this would be a great daily which is what you'd want it for. Just on looks, I would buy this car.

Another friend has the V8 S4 and he absolutely blew away the s60r. (Though I don't condone that sort of shenanigans on public roads.) Personally, of the two cars I've driven, I love the s4 by miles.

Any have reviews of the GT spec.B? Seems to fit the bill for considerably less.

But, the last 3 cars have been euro-trash, and so are the 2 in current consideration. Fignuts!

GTFO!

If I can manage to win a race this year I'm convinced I'm selling it... probably to my dad too.
