Actually used CTS-V's aren't too expensive, might be worth checking out. They're a bit weak on the interior IMO (although it's been awhile since I've checked one out) but it'll certainly fit the bill in driving satisfaction.
Worth checking out the E46 M3 and CTS-V.

M3 sounds like a nice car that could suit some of your needs, worth checking out. I could see you really enjoying the C6 but I could also see you selling it soon thereafter to find a car that was a bit more travel worthy.
On a side note.. I couldn't imagine that STi not selling at its current price. Good luck man, I'm sure it will work out.
Lee, good call on the house. you're definitely thinking sensibly, which is more than can be said for many of us afflicted with boost rot!
i would say that dumping the STi, the IS, and getting into a house is sounding good....then how about looking into maybe something like a Merc AMG C43? classic MB styling, AMG power, space/pace/grace -- seems like it would fit your needs. they are way down in price too.
and i would second a vote for the CTS-V. that car is a beast, all the goodness of one of GM's LS1 engine, in a nice looking body and with all the luxury that the vette either wouldn't have, or would look goofy having.

I personally would not get a mercedes. Biggest pieces of shit ever. My mom had a 99 E320 4matic and that car was in the garage at least once a month and it never cost less than $100 every time it was in. You can't work on them much yourself because they require special tools for every little thing. I thought perhaps it was a fluke but her friends that had merc's were equally unhappy with them. The thing that put the icing on the cake was when the transmission locked up and we had to have the car towed to the dealership, so they gave us a E430 to drive while they fixed it. Three days later the E430 died and we had to have the loaner car towed.
Moral of the story as far as I'm concerned, stay away from a mercedes.

real estate appreciates 99% of the time. securing your own house especially at some crazy deals which i'm sure you can get by working for a builder is much better than buying a car, any car that will depreciate immediately once you drive it off a lot. yeah, it might be hard to pull ass if you drive around in a '89 tercel, but in your situation, it sounds like you'll still drive a decent car no matter what you decide to do. however, it will be difficult to pull ass when you say "hey, i'd invite you back to my place, but my mom is probably still awake ordering shit off QVC"

yikes! i thought the one i showed was the pre-crap era  my gramps is a huge Merc fan, had them in gas and diesel for like 30 years. his last one, a mid nineties C320, was pretty good but then again i think it was driven about 3000 miles a year.

So that nukes a CTS-V right out of the box. Personally, I think it would be the perfect blend of luxury and performance, but the CTS-V aint for suckas, and doesn't come in LazyShift configuration.
And, you got me. That particular Buick is a V6, but you can get 'em with NStar V8's.

A Hemi 300C would be really dope. Those sound AMAZING with exhaust. I've never sat in or driven one though.... might have to look into that.
The CTS-V might be ok if it came in automagic, but I sat in a brand new STS-V at a car show and I was really unimpressed with how comfortable the interior was overall despite its apparent high quality of manufacture. The leather seats were very hard and not inviting and the OEM nav interface was fuckin weird. The only thing weirder would be BMW's retarded I-Drive or whatever it's called.

I don't know, this is all a moot point in my mind.
How about you put a quiet exhaust on the STI and drive it like it was meant to be driven?? The car is pure sex

Seriously Lee, keep the IS, buy the house, and get a 02 or 03 Porsche 911. If you haven't driven one, you don't know what you're missing. It's only rated at like 320hp, but because of engine placement, it moves much quicker. Plus, the tiptronics (if you wanted the automatic) are much cheaper than the 6-speeds.
And right now is the time to buy a 911... let me know if you want help locating one.

I know I could get aftermarket stuff for the IS, but there is a lot of stuff you have to change out when you do that from what I've read, it's a total pain in the ass.
I'd like nicer seats and overall a nicer interior. Don't get me wrong, the IS is very comfortable, but I'm not 100% in love with the seats, and the dash, console, surround are more on the sporty side as opposed to being luxurious. IE no wood grain, etc. hock:
It's strange to see those paragraphs from someone who put together the car you did
If you really want a house, I would vote for ignoring a few creature comforts for a while, getting used to paying the house note and all the extra costs of home ownership, and THEN decide what you want to do. Basically, sell STi, keep IS for a while longer, and after you have a house, figure out what you want next. You might decide you want to mod the house more than you want a little extra luxury.
You're going to lose a fair amount of $$ just to get navigation and climate control, aren't you?
