I've never been to an autocross before and I was a little confused by the classification system when I went to register. I have 2000 Impreza 2.5RS. The frustrating part is my mods. All it has done to it is cams and bigger brakes but from what I've read that alone puts me in what is likely a much faster group. It also still has the stock Potenzas on it from the PO. So no sticky tires for me at the moment. Anyone care to chime in?

cams and bigger brakes, welcome to SCCA classing. Dont worry about your first autocross. Go out and register in rookie class, I promise your driving has 10x more to do with where you will ende up then your classing.
AKA just register in SM-T Rookie.

Register for SM-Novice. It'll put you against other folks who are new. Tire will put you up against some of the more experianced drives and that can be rough.
Either way concentrate on learning autox at the fist few events and don't really worry about where you finish. For your first few events concentrate on beating your own times rather than others.
The classing is kinda tricky but they try to take into account that most people do all the bolt ons before internals which is why internal engine mods and boost tend to throw you into the high hp classes. Our region is kinda small though so most of the time we just compare overall results with each other.
Thanks for the advice, I'll do that. I'm just looking to come out and give it a try. Without experience I don't expect to do well haha

I understand, I just ended up jumping ahead with cams because I had the engine out anyway to do headgaskets. At this point I mostly just to check it out and see what all the excitement is about.

Just come out and have fun. Worry about your classing later. I have found that the best thing to do is to print out a copy of the rules for each class, and start highlighting what you have done and determine where your car (or what you want your car to be) fits the best.

I'll be in the same classing boat next year building up a motor myself with some parts that will knock me into CSP or SSM...I'll basically be choosing who gets to kick my ass since I'll be on street tires.
David, what time do I need to get there Saturday to help Ray with course set up?

you'll be fine. don't worry about classing, when you're new, at the end of your day its just fun to see your overall times compared to the whole field. bring some water, get your tire pressures up, and just have fun tossing your car around. walk the course early on when you get there, and try to get rides with people before your run so you can get a better feel for the course.

Definitely. If you want a ride just find someone from the club. We'll get you in a car out on course. Ask questions if you have them. No need to go out on course with any doubts.

Seriously though Ray and I will be there at 7:15ish if not a few minutes earlier. We're hoping to get the trailer there as early as possible to unpack it and then set up track.
So freshman here with no car here and such. Looking to do some ride-alongs maybe a co-drive if someone is nice haha. But, I'll also need a ride up to the autox for Saturday if anyone is open or willing. And yes I'm a noob to the autox world.

Cool. I'll try to aim for 7ish. That way if I am a few minutes late, I'll still get there early.
I hope this Mini I'm up against doesn't have R-comps. I think I'll be OK as long as they don't have a huge traction advantage.

Not yet, Kyle Knudsen is going to reflash the ECU (thats what the seller said needed to be done, I have about 0 faith in that but might as well try) And then also replace the Brake Switch, stupid $10 part. Otherwise stuck in 3rd gear.
If it doesnt fix it, after October VIR, manual transmission going in. If it does fix it, itll only delay the swap to manual by another month or two
