Yeah +1 on what Chris says, I do think it would be a good thing for us to have to be able to toss around ideas, experience etc.

I have been considering a few outdoor cameras only but I'm in the same situation where I don't want to drill through exterior walls and run coax / ethernet cables through walls that are already drywalled in.

I have 2 HD foscams , 2 SD foscams , and 4 Dlink SD cameras.

I like the Dlinks the best by far. They have great zero config cloud integration that doesnt require port forwarding, so remote viewing is much easier. they also come up in the viewer instantly.

The HD foscams are sharper, and have 2 way audio, so they make for good babycams, but are much slower and laggy to come up, and a pain in the dick to set for remote viewing.

I havent even bothered to hook up any of the foscams at my new place.

when my new zigbee/zwave box gets here, Im going to set up some automated video record actions when someone comes home, knocks on door, etc.

I haven't really looked into wireless cameras but I'm just curious, how are these things powered?

There is also "DropCam" version of cameras -- seems pretty user friendly, but kind of sucks you have to pay for the cloud back-up for backing up video.

I need to do some more research, but I want something like the Drop-Cam, but with the ability to back to my Network attached storage.

ps. Be sure to lock down your FosCam's, lots of security vulnerabilities out there for it.

dropcams are pretty sweet. too rich for my blood though. The dlinks do everything they do, just at a lower resolution and the cloud access is free (though they dont have cloud recording)

i think a port forwarded HD foscams would be your best bet for both recording and cloud access. i know they will save to a fileshare (or sd card)

So you'd have to drill through exterior walls anyway to run power to the camera. So what does it matter if you don't want to drill through walls to run coax/ethernet cable?

who said anything about exterior walls? I use my cameras inside (though im planning a front door cam). I also have several outside power outlets already, and having them put in is pretty quick and cheap if you dont.

Evan aren't you worried about the weather for outdoor camera's and having the plug on the exterior of the house? My townhouse is a rear garage unit and that's where I'd like to place my outdoor camera, but not sure how I feel about having the power cord plugged in outdoors.

That's what I have on my exterior outlets. That and a gfci receptacle and its fine.
My front has a porch covering so I'm not worried about using an indoor camera on the porch, if I do a rear can (unlikely). I'll get a real outdoor cam

What stops bad guys from unplugging your camera. They don't even have to cut a cord. That said, whats stopping them from cutting the cord. Of course i understand the concept is to catch vandalizing or thieves going after cars or are to inexperience to go for the camera. Or in Evans case, sounds like it could be used to see who's at the door/keep a record of it

There is nothing to stop them at all. I thought about tapping into my outdoor outlet, and installing an outlet on the inside of my garage (closest to where I would mount the camera). Just not sure if i want to be running power cords through walls.

Or just put a big ass potted plant that covers the wire was my back up idea, but who knows.

So I got my hunting license this weekend and went for the first time in my life! I have thrown thousands of rounds of lead downrange and grew up on a farm but just never really shot to kill anything for some reason. Probably because the only time my dad shot anything was if it was rabid, so we never went together.

We went dove hunting since the season opened today it was fun but hard! We went to an area on my buddy's farm that is kind of wooded but there is a clearing with two good open areas with some trees that some birds would hang around. Definitely not ideal like a mowed down field but it worked. My buddy got one about halfway through our time out there, I saw one and took a shot at it but no dice. I was using a borrowed old pump from my buddy with an adjustable choke, which we tested out later and found that it had a really wide shot pattern (apparently not good for doves). Rex already made up my mind but now I am definitely not going to buy a pump to bird hunt. Doves are too fast and unpredictable, it was hard enough just shouldering and aiming in time to get a shot on, let alone racking and shooting a follow up shot. It is also difficult to identify some birds in flight unless you have seen them flying a lot, so that was another thing I need to learn.

Oh and I did step in a fire ant hill and got a few fun bites! But all in all I had a great day and looking forward to hopefully getting one or two next time!

My dad has a belgian a5 and an evolve , and it's amazing how much lighter the evolve is than the A5 or my pump BPS. I don't think they make them anymore, but they probably have some equivalent new line out, or you can find them around used.

The new gold replacement is the "Maxus", made in belgium...aka Rexy's Favorite Recommendation the Super X3 aka "The Ruling Shotgun of 3gun" FN SLP.

All the same gun, except I think the Maxus adds a magazine cutoff...and like 300 bucks on the price.

Yeah I definitely have it narrowed down to the SX3, it feels the best in my hands and everything I have read about it is that it is top notch. I keep eyeing a few that pop up on Gunbroker for around $850-860 shipped, which seems to be about the best price you can find them.

Was going to hold out a bit longer and keep watching Gunbroker, until I checked out one of the local shops here that is one of the highest volume gun dealers in the nation. They had SX-3 Black Shadows, 28" 3.5" chambered barrel in stock, which is exactly what I was looking for! And it was discounted pretty close to what I had seen on GB. Score!

I swung up there today hoping to negotiate it down a bit further with cash in my hand. Turns out they only had one in stock and it just came off of layaway since whoever ordered it didn't end up buying it. BNIB, but had a small scratch on the barrel that I used to gently beat them up a bit more on the price. They dropped the price another $15 (was already about $160 off of retail), there is an additional $75 manufacturers mail in rebate going on until the 15th, and one of their gunsmiths touched up the scratch for free while I waited. Can't even see it anymore! Nice. I scooped that used Mossy Oak bag from the bargain bin for $10 that fits it perfectly.







I can't wait to break this thing in! Might go to the skeet range next Wednesday with a LEO buddy of mine before I take it out and try to kill doves with it
