Yeah, you're fine. Sounds like maybe the water pump and/or fan didn't go back on properly and tore itself apart, either that or you got a fluke defective part or something. Drain all the coolant out, flush the system a few times to make sure you get all the impeller chunks out and get a new WP and fan clutch/fan.
Everyone makes an expensive mistake once or twice, or ....more... just gotta fix it and keep on rollin.

Well by what he told me, the water pump destroyed the hole where it sits on its way out which would prevent the new pump from sealing properly, wouldn't it?

I'm with the other guys - flush the bitch out and do it over. Sure, it's an expensive mistake (although possibly cheap in the realm of things), but remember that professional mechanics make worse mistakes and you don't need to get so down on yourself.
does the water pump sit in a housing? can you remove the housing and see how bad it is?

It looks like its sealed by the o-ring(s) on the pump anyways. Post a picture of the damage...

Ah, I apologize for not getting back. I keep forgetting to check the forums and shit, blah blah blah. You've heard it before.
Anyways, I took it to the shop, and what apparently happened is that the old pump left some residue in the water pump housing that apparently I didn't clean out well enough. It was metal by the way, so not really sure what I missed... but anyways. This residue made the new pump seize up, sheared the water pump mounting studs, and sent metal bits everywhere. Also, my new expansion tank (from BW) cracked under pressure, sending coolant everywhere, explaining all the coolant spray. So, after some new studs, pump and expansion tank, seems everything is back in order. Won't know for sure yet until I get it back from the shop tomorrow; my mechanic wanted to check the timing case and all that, so we'll see.
Sorry for not posting pics of damage! I'll post some of the new water pump to show what happened. Taking pictures of it the damage wasn't really on my mind at the time lol.
Thanks for all the support though, didn't mean to hyperventilate on the thread, but when your car explodes, well you know.

Welp, I got the car back on monday with a new expansion tank and everything running better than before. Unfortunately, my mechanic put in the wrong coolant, so I'm going to pick up another jug of BMW coolant and replace it this weekend (probably). My battery went kaputs yesterday, so I also got that replaced today too. I got a new gas cap (my second one) since the one I got from pelican parts was the wrong kind. Hopefully, this will solve the engine code issue, but if not, I have an ODII engine code reader on the way.
The contours that I got from DJ are going to Jake, and I"ll be switching to a square dsII set up to help negate the problem with camber wear in the rears by rotating tires.
All in all, everything seems (finally) sorted out. All of the rattling in the front end that appeared after I replaced endlinks seems to have disappeared completely, which I'm not really sure why. The car hasn't been driven for the past couple of weeks, so maybe that has something to do with it? Not really sure, but until it starts rattling again, I'm not going to worry about it.
Now I can finally focus on cosmetic stuff.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the BMW coolant. Mine has been running on the plebeian green stuff for years with no problem. I'm sure someone out there will explain in detail why I'm an idiot and my car is going to explode for it but it hasn't happened yet. 8)

Alright, good to know. I won't worry about it then. Just took the car over Aston mountain and back, and no more smell of coolant :thumbup: I also so a 3 mpg increase on the highway too, from 23 to 27. Pretty awesome.
