Project 10AE Miata
Goodspeed Wrote:Oh, and I'm just planning/hoping to have a little more grip for both myself and the car - Hankook RS3's are nationally backordered so I'll keep my fingers crossed that my order comes through in time

The internet says June 16 Tire Rack should have some RS3s back. Whether or not they've already been spoken for is probably another issue. They're pretty much everyone's favorite autocross tire and people tend to hoard as nationals get closer.

Yeah, the guy at TR I spoke with said the website has an estimator that it uses based on previous lead times - apparently Hankook doesn't provide expected dates and whatnot so its all kind of ??? at this point. Oh well, NBD - if they don't come in by the next event I wouldn't be able to fully exploit them anyways so I can wait...

No pics of them mounted yet - it turns out I need these lugs to mount them.

I ordered them at the same time as the wheels, but they won't be shipping until first week of July - too late for the VMP A-X Sad . Stock are 21mm, these wheels will only fit 19mm (12x1.5) lugs. I could get ~$45 dollars worth of crappy open-ended acorn lug nuts from Advance, but I'm not sure I want to do that especially since the nice ones are paid for and arriving soon...

I'm also giving it a good and thorough brake bleed. I went through a whole can of ATE Gold today, getting the old Blue out, and the fluid coming out of the rears is still tinged blue. I guess another bottle or two won't hurt :dunno:

a) what tires are those?
2) NAPA has cheap open ended lugs (like, $.50 ea). They're heavy and steel and not bling, but they're cheap and they work. I used to use them on my racecar and would get the wheels on the car.
iii) OG doesnt have anything, or anyone that you work with have some you can borrow?

Yeah buddy. Let me tell you, these things are supertits. Very light, build quality looks fantastic...just hurry up and grab a set because Emilio@949 has trouble keeping these puppies in stock. What width are you going for? You know, 15x10's are coming in August. Get the sawzall!

a) Toyo R1R, 225/45/15, 140AA EHP, sticky-ick.
2) Good point - but where the hell is a NAPA? I've half-heartedly looked and there seems to be 1 in all of Nova. I wonder if I'd be able to get there before they close. Can't find em on their website.
iii) We don't carry them. I'll ask.

lol scotty.

.

Spray between autocross runs. They do not handle heat well, but when they are kept cool, they grip very well (currently run them on my STS car). They also like low pressure, like <30

Nice choice Goodspeed. I'll look up those ride heights for you. I have everything written down back in the garage in Virginia. Next time I make it home I'll get the numbers to you. Enjoy the new found grip. My numbers weren't too far off from Emilio's starting points on his website for racing alignments.

Impressions: the car is just crazy fun to drive now. I'll pass on the go-kart cliche in favor of...well, a slot car  . These tires are kick-ass and it was just silly fun on my drive of some neighborhood twisties this evening. Something I wasn't expecting was how beneficial installing the steering wheel was - my main motivation was to just replace the stock (14.75") wheel with something smaller for ingress/egress. However, the smaller (and much lighter) wheel provides awesome feel and feedback and feels much better in my hands.

The seats/harnesses were installed by Piper Motorsport on custom bases and I luurrrve them. I fit in the seats perfectly, the seats fit the car perfectly, and combined with the other modifications together its a whole new car to drive. Hustling it through the twisties is a lot more positive as I no longer have to use the steering wheel for leverage. They also installed Mazda Comp heavy duty swaybar mounts, after drilling out the stock ones that are prone to failure, and performed a corner balance/alignment.

Slowly but surely, its turning into the "perfect" Miata I envisioned
