Project: R3D3MPTION?

I think the last time you uttered that phrase, your silver M3 ended up with a cammed LS1, so don't let us down now.

I feel a mix of admiration, envy, and "dude's crazy" about your automotive ambition, DJ.

I dunno that I'll ever own one again, but e30's will always have a special place in my heart. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

Dave, I vote for at least a new front valence. The old one was pretty Phteven'd no?

Pretty much

Joey came over and power washed out the engine bay. This car (as most 25 year old cars with leaky gaskets) BADLY needed it and I greatly approve of him coming over and doing that. First, it looks better, 2nd not everything is covered in sludge anymore.

PS - He came over with his....fiance!!! Congratulations again Joey!

Then Joey left with his FIANCE, to go do things together or something..

And I was left working the rest of the day; but in between work I was able to knock out some work on Dave's car.

Swapped in the requisite brake booster for more clearance and throttle cable. I hate interior work  . Couple missing fasteners under the dash that luckily I had in my spare bolts bins.

And finished off the night with welding up some plates to cover up the "secondary air pump" holes. Halfway through the 2nd weld I realized I was a bit close to the bolt hole  #grinder

Got some more time last night and tackled a couple more projects.

Welded up the front subframe reinforcements (Sorry no pictures, I was in "get shit done" mode).

Went ahead and did some cooling maintenance, fan and fan clutch went bye bye... New water pump, thermostat, aluminum thermostat housing in
[Image: 15741246_10103509514396889_8132411114774...e=58D6F21F]

Next, grabbed the engine and threw it up on the engine stand to make the next couple steps easier. Ditched the stock exhaust manifolds, A/C Compressor and A/C Compressor Bracket.

Disassembled the clutch/flywheel, in very good shape and can be reused, WOOHOO! Rear main seal looks good, but have a spare here in Dave's parts so probably going to replace.

Found this beauty of a ground strap, luckily had a spare lying around.

Next up was to replace the oil pan (COME ON GUYS, DRAIN THE OIL BEFORE YOU TRANSPORT THINGS!!) Smile. After using plenty of oil dry, I guess I am now checking everything to make sure they are drained. LOLZ.

Pulled the oil pan...ewww. This thing has been sitting a bit. I guess I will need to break her in hard when I am done Wink

In order to get the S50 in an E30, E34 oil pan and pickup tube need to go in. Since you are replacing the pickup tube, there is a bracket on the S50 for the stock pickup tube. To pull it, you have to take off main bearing bolts. I hate to disturb a stock motor, so I went the cutoff wheel route and some trashbags to protect the internals. This little thing in the center is the culprit.

[Image: 15697806_10103509514212259_3573009899848...e=58EC566B]

After dispatching that, I installed the E34 pump with new gasket, red loctited the oil pump nut, then safety wired the oil pump nut. That thing ain't coming off...... (no pictures of it completed Sad forgot!)
[Image: 15622635_10103509514207269_3300425409746...e=58E4C571]

With the oil pan on, motor flipped back over on the engine stand I called it a night.

Next up:
Fixing transmission mount
Rear Main Seal
Clutch
Flywheel
SS Clutch Line
Transmission On
Install Engine in car

Then the real fab work begins on exhaust, coolant lines, fuel lines, and power steering lines.

Come on over anytime you need a fix, there's decks, fence, retaining walls and so on that need to be done.

Thanks for doing that, Joey, that's a lot of crud. DJ, just send me the EPA bill when they catch up with you.

I probably should have mentioned I have no history on that pump, it just came with the pickup.
here's to hoping it works!

Life has been busy, I had to take a break from the project and paint the nursery and nursery bathroom. Now that is done, I realized I also had to finish up the movie room before really tackling this head on. Of course I get 75% done and realize I was a couple feet short of speaker wire (on a 100 foot roll), so that hit a snag and I had time to get a little work done on the E30.

Quick pic of the front subframe reinforcement before it gets all scratched up putting the motor in  . I have gotten mixed signals from people as to which hole the engine mounts in so I did not complete the bottom. I will have to pull the rack back out once everything is in and finalized to complete.
[Image: 15871458_10103525946481859_6386561327159...e=58EC8FA1]

Installed a couple things, rear main seal, pilot bearing, and general cleanup. Also got the SS clutch line in, deleted the charcoal canister, some miscellaneous brackets, and checked through the wiring harness.

Lastly took a look at the rust that was where the trans mount was. With a little work I got the trans mount actually off. This is the rust. Unfortunately it destroyed the inside where the bolts "hold themselves". I am going to clean up and instead of cutting out the whole section, going to line up the trans mount and do a couple spot welds on the studs to hold them in place.

Flywheel bolts came in the other day, I look forward to putting together everything and getting the motor in!

Missing Parts:
1.Power Steering lines from pump to steering rack (missing banjo on pump side)
2. Power steering line from steering rack to reservoir
3. Coolant Block drain plug (you finally drain something and then you lose the bolt! Tongue )
4. Coolant lines (gotta figure out what fits first)
5. Slave Cylinder hard line. This connects from the slave cylinder to SS clutch line

I was looking last night for the PS line part numbers, but haven't come across them. Anyone have internet time today that might be able to help grab PN's for 1,2,3,5?

1: Pump to Rack: 32411141953
2: Reservoir to Rack: 32411141714 (Pump to Reservoir is 32411138419 in case that's also needed)
3: 07119919228 and also the washer: 07119963200
5: Either #22: 21522282355 or #11: 21521160291. The diagram is a little ambiguous. Assuming it's the shorter hard line that connects directly to the slave, then it's gotta be #22, the first P/N. You'd think the diagram would show the P/N for the hard line coming off #12 in the illustration, or that i'd be part of #12, but when you search for that it just returns a soft line. (although the P/N for #12 is 21521159350, ,might as well be thorough.)

I just...Don't recall any lines on this car at all? Cause all the spare parts were put in either the trunk or back the e30 or in Dave's garage, but I legit don't remember pulling any. Weird....
