Was also skeptical but seems like a good idea. A calender with cars, sexy women, and ducks, what could be cooler than that.

i tend to over pay and or add a little extra here and there, especially at events i attend. as long as there is a well researched and thought out plan i think we are all willing to help get seed money going.
from what i've heard, wrapping up the end of the school year the money gets tight... which transitions to the new school year quickly.

OK, that makes sense. Sounds like end of summer is a good time to put the alumni beg on to come into the new year with some funds for PR and recruiting.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...
I think it helped some of us at the time to get alum donations at the start of the spring semester. Student dues collected in September helped through to winter break, then donations in January or so helped push us through to the summer.
Anyone who is really interested in assisting with a 2013, Madison Motorsports Presents: Cars & Coeds Calendar, please PM me.

We had some luck sending a letter to all the new/student members homes asking parents if they would like to donate. Tell them they would be investing money in one of their children's passions then a bunch of mumbo jumbo about how were all legal, responsible, etc.

We ended up getting a couple hundred bucks. Not bad for only investing in a book of stamps.

I know of a couple of attractive females who would probably be down for this idea. I just hope we actually follow through this will definitely make some money.

Keep me in the loop... but I don't want to be in on all the minutia. Pretty please.

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
If there is someone (or someones) who is extremely motivated and has the time we can make this happen for a 2012 calendar. We'd need to get the shooting done in the next 2 weeks at the max. We've pulled harder things together in 2 weeks (the first car show for instance) but this would certainly be a big challenge.
2013 would be no problem. If we go for 2013 it might be fun to do a snowshoot for January/February. Have a WRX or Evo sliding sideways on snow in the background and the model in the foreground.
Anyway, had a couple of other merchandise ideas I think we can execute on this semester:
-Do a custom designed mug, sell for $10 at Fall Finale (and VIR in Feb). Fill with free coffee. I've got a couple of ideas for some automotive/motorsport themed mugs that we could slap on there.
-Sell limited art prints of auto art. Have Scotty or Madden or whoever do a painting/illustration, make maybe 25 prints, sell them for $20-25 each. Or go one better and sell them in a dutch auction on ebay. Would be great for Christmas time.
-Sell a sticker sheet with 5-6 motorsport themed stickers. Could sell these for about $5-10 depending on how fancy the stickers are. The company I used (Sticker Robot) for the Aclr8 stickers is very competitive on price and produces very good quality stickers.

Two weeks to line up girls that know what they're doing, the cars, the photographer and hope the weather cooperates? No chance. I mean you could, but it would likely hurt your final product and ultimately your sales.
Speaking from experience, you need at least a month. Maybe two if you really want the right girls/cars/outcome.

Not an Evo (yet) but i'd be more than happy to help with the snow pictures also, does this have to occur at JMU? Couldn't we split this up a bit?
EDIT: unless of course we're going for the whole "Madison girls" angle.

College girls will likely make terrible models. Better off hiring them.

Not really. Like everything, it takes practice. I used to think "Oh, just get some randoms to pose in front of the camera" but I've since realized there is actually skill that goes in to the final product. Go figure.
Not saying amateurs won't work, just that screening them for either a bit of experience or being super comfortable in front of a camera will save you a shitload of time. I did this shoot with a first timer once and she didn't loosen up and actually take a decent picture until hour 4, I think?
You could go for the lowest common denominator of skin/slutty, but I'm not sure that's where you want to go.
Regardless, you should still pay them... at least something. Unless they're completely naive and are all like "OMG I'm a gonna be a model!" they are FAR more likely to flake when money isn't involved.
