Just an update. I got my license on sunday. I went and checked out an F4i in frederick and it seemed pretty beat on so I passed on it. Going to look at a 2004 SV650S tomorrow in staunton. Hopefully this is in a little better shape.

Thats a great riding first bike. Just FYI, if your buddies are like "lets go do wheelies".... those bikes werent ment to do that. They oil starve the front cylinder... bad things happen. Keep it on two wheels and enjoy the ride.

You know Kaan, you're the only person I ever heard say this, so I did a little research. The whole "front cylinder" thing doesn't make sense. If the pickup has oil, the whole oil circuit has oil. I mean yeah, when it's in the air the front cylinder is "straight up", but even if the bike is level the oil is still overcoming gravity. Digging on the internets a little, apparently if your oil level is low in a first gen SV650, you might oil starve during a wheelie because of the pickup location, which was redesigned for the fuelie bikes in '03. I see plenty of stunters choosing SV's, and if there were any kind of serious risk to damage when doing a wheelie, nobody would use them for stunting, ever.
But more to the point, if your buddies are like "Lets go do wheelies" find new buddies.

one of the biggest street fighter builders in the area does a lot of SV work... like A LOT... and the chopper guys i know usually have an SV sport bike... and talking with the owner of RnR with all the repairs they have to do... they say the problem isnt solved. there are still a lot of oil starved front cylinders.

Oil starving used to be a fairly well known thing for non-FI SV. And if you brake hard enough you fuel starve (if you're a srsly badass moto racer).

I actually got my helmet and jacket off of ebay but I had already tried both on in a store so I knew exactly what size to get. You can do that and then order online to get the best prices if you aren't sure exactly what size you want, which brand fits you the best, etc.
