?? heh, I didn't see you there! Oh well, fun weekend. I figured we were going to get rained on a WHOLE lot more than we did. It was quite nice! And I didn't hit anything this time!

There were some neat cars there on Friday... too bad out of the 3 Ariel Atoms that were there, I didn't see ANY of them on track. Apparently the only one that was out broke early morning. Good showing.

I think ~12 Nobles were there too? Thats too many. It was satisfying to pass them. And get lapped twice by the only "fast" one.

Review:
Track time is an absolute blast even if it is scorching hot. As with most people I was pretty nervous for my first outing on the track but after the experience I'm extremely glad I pursued it. The event ran smoothly and not once did I ever feel that either myself or the car was in danger. Getting out for my first session was definitely iffy at best and it showed that my only prior experience was auto-x as I had a ton to learn. I got lucky and had a great instructor that was a great teacher throughout the event. The car performed well and I never felt like I was ever near the limit of the car or feared an off track excursion. As with anything on track I did have some incidents of noting... 2 Porsches spinning right in front of me, one coming through T1 and the other through T4. My only self-induced iffy situation was a nice AWDrift going through T8 at pretty substantial speed... needless to say I didn't attempt that again. Even in just one event I feel like I came away with a ton of information that I can apply in the rest of my driving. The first time out on track I was completely out of my element and extremely uncomfortable at higher speeds but by the end of the weekend 125 down the front straight and going deep into turns didn't seem too extreme especially after riding in my instructor's car Confusedhock:. Got the opportunity to learn basic lines and then worked on improving those throughout the sessions and picked up substantial speeds.

All in all I came away with a greater respect for the track and the skills that it requires to go fast and still be in control. For those who are thinking about trying it, please do it... you will have no regrets. Because of my experience I plan on attending a few more events but I have a few things to pan out before I do so based on what I learned from this event.

Thanks to all of the MMers and NASA staff for making such a great weekend. Smile

Great time except for having a cracked valve cover which caused oil to squirt everywhere for the first 2 sessions until we realized there was a crack. Then my car kept creeping up to 215 water temps, and I was freaking out at first and then I rode with everyone's cars and noticed everybody else was running those temps and so I pushed back my warning in my own mind and she ran fantastic.

Overall I came away with a LOT especially this weekend. For the first time I got a REALLY GOOD instructor and he really helped me push back my fears and start working on trying to get to the limit. My main problem is compressing brake zones as im apparently a "not confident" of my brakes. So especially when he SOLOed me on Sunday I mainly worked on trying to compress those brake zones and I really noticed that I was becoming much calmer than I had before on my previous 2 track weekends. Even when I came in a little hot on 17 trying to compress my brake zones and got sideways coming around 17 I didnt freak out and just adjusted throttle and used smooth inputs on the steering wheel.

Had awesome rides with Maeng and Channing and I really appreciate the help from them. Thanks to everybody out there and another thanks to Channing for the rtv and tools to get that crack in the valve cover fixed up.

That's how Channing fixes most of his car stuff.

How does a valve cover crack and did your laptop give you any warning?

Son of a bitch...I dont know wether your making a fast and furious comment or going off of hearing that I didnt have my laptop with me to tune and watch her as the cams were put in thursday night.... The valve cover was cracked when tightening them down after the cams, but only leaks under heavy loads......I finally just stutterboxed it in the paddock and heard WHOA! from a few people when oil shot out

Edit: Thanks for the pics Evan!
