if youre still using the same desktop it probably doesnt use PCI-express, or DDR2
instead of throwing money at that pile it would probably be better to get something cheap like this http://shop3.outpost.com/product/5425189 then upgrade the video card and memory with what you linked above (although better deals are out there, i just bought 2gb for $20)

With another video card and some more memory I should be able to get another year or two out of this thing.

You're spending money on stuff that won't likely port over to a new machine. At this point. it's probably more economical in the long run to get something with newer technology and upgrade it if necessary.
You are the Ginger of computers.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

seriously dude....if new computers were $1k then I would agree, but I just posted a link to a solid machine (lots of good reviews) for $300....
an AGP dual DVI card and old memory would be at least half of that probably more not to mention a PITA to find.

The $300 computer has pretty much the same speed, HD space and video card I have now - doesnt really get me anywhere. I've put $0 into the desktop I have since I bought it, so another $150 to hold me off for another year or two is ok with me.

Evan Wrote:.RJ Wrote:The $300 computer has pretty much the same speed, HD space and video card I have now .no How so? 2.4 vs 2.6, 120 gig is the same HD space I have now, i'd need to replace the video card in that one to run 2 monitors - so whats the point? Edit - I wont disagree that building a new PC is probably the 'best' option, but I dont really want to spend $500-600 to build something decent right now when the one I've got isnt broken and does everything I need it to except run 2 monitors.

The BMW is totally back together and runs like a top.
The Suzuki has been a total champ (even when I thought I blew it up )And the Honda just needs me to throw my parts at it. I'm lazy... sue me

Same Dell, bought it 4 years ago.
What would it cost to build something new then? Dual monitor, decent processor... something with enough oontz to run GTR2/NFS/etc well.

i spent just under $900 on my build. it's more than adequate for those games (i bought really nice components so it runs silently).

$650 - I'd need to add more memory, Dell wanted an extra $100 for another 1 gig. Quote:Dell Inspiron 530s: |
