"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Kaan is being stupid and buying an ITA CRX engine from JE....

James Evans had a spare ITA block at his shop. Its got a fresh oil pump, water pump, bearings, rings, forged pistons, and is .40 over. It is ballanced and blueprinted as well... he wanted $700 for it... and he is throwing in a header with it....
the head of the motor that just melted down is going to a shop in fredneck for a partial ITA build... bascially just decking it to ITA spec, hot tanking, new valve seals, new cam seals, and a valve job.
The block that just melted down will go on the engine stand. I will learn to rebuild motors with it... at least bottom ends. I'm planning on picking up the propper tools to blue print the bottom end... i might send the pistons out to get ballanced... I have a spare Y8 head that will eventually see much of the same work the A6 head is seeing. I'm hoping to finish up the mini me by the summer... and have a 13:1 compression 7.5k red line mini me to blow up.
I've wanted to learn how to build motors for a while now. This just gives me a chance to learn... I'm going to try to build a little setup down in the 3 car garage... the work bench and all... we'll see how it goes. i have to learn to pull a cam cleanly so i can send the Y8 cam out for a regrind though... last time i did it on an A6 head shit went everywhere...

Kaan,
Have you thought about letting a shop balance/blueprint stuff and you starting learning how to assemble the engines. I had my hands full with that. Balancing/blueprinting equipment is pretty expensive unless you're just talking about gasket matching.
Two feet.
Andy Wrote:Balancing/blueprinting equipment is pretty expensive
Balancing, yes - and probably best left to the pros. At least with the honda, the only thing to balance is the crank and flywheel.
Blueprinting isnt bad, you would just need some fixtures and a scale accurate to .001 grams. Maybe I will start building "pro" spec miata engines

Honing the cylinders, measuring them to ensure they're straight, cc'ing the head, piston to wall clearance aren't run of the mill stuff. I'm not trusting a drill and a bottle brush to ensure my hatching is up to snuff.
Personally, I think learning to assemble the engine is a more gooder practice than "engine builder" activities. Assembling engines is the beginner level of engine building. You get to take some basic measurements, torque down some stuff and frankly, the first time you put together an engine, it's damn plenty exciting.
Two feet.
machine work to heads and blocks will be done by someone else... trust me. I do want to learn assembly... and start working with manifolds and stuff like that. the only PnP i would do would be to manifolds...
honestly i dont think blue printing is that much of a black magic. write shit down, measure twice... plus my brother is an Audi tech and has Honda Certs... He spent some time doing high performance stuff while he was at UTI... so i'm sure he can lead me in the right direction.
I wana build two "pro" miata motors too time to set up the 3 car!!!!!
