Reckless driving tech?

Alright, small update. I've retained a lawyer. I went with the one who seemed to know the most about the Louisa county courts (names of the judge, DA, etc - common judgements based on previous situations, blah blah). And he wasn't absurdly expensive either.

I was assured that my upcoming trip to Europe will not be in jeopardy at all ::whew::

So he already knows you're not going to jail, that's a good lawyer.

He seemed to think that if necessary he can get the court date moved to after the trip. *And* he doesn't think I'm likely to face jail time (and might even get the charges reduced after all). We'll see.

Most excellent! When it all works itself out, we'll have a colossal "John gets (got) out of jail" party.

Are allowed to leave the country with a pending felony charge?

edit: if this is a misdemeanor they disregard what I said...

As I've stated numerous times in this thread, it is a Class 1 Misdemeanor.

They *can*, but I've been informed by my management and security folks that I'm probably ok. I know several people down here who work at NGIC and have gotten reckless tickets, who have not had any problems with their clearances.

I asked management that too and they didn't think recklesses were that big of a deal unless there was a little old lady underneath a tire. In terms driving offenses, DUI is the break point between acceptable and you're screwed.

We should go to court with John in black button down shirts and yellow ties, givin' the MM's from the back row.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

Just from personal experience doing 29 over....the cop WILL NOT tell the judge anything about your case and how you cooperated and had full control..blah blah blah, even if they tell you they will do so when you're on the side of the road. The best bet is to sign up for a DIP class before court, plead guilty, and say to the judge "here's what i've done to help get rid of my reckless ways" and present the DIP certificate/receipt/whatever. Wouldnt even screw around with getting a lawyer, because the 60$ for DIP class will go a lot further than whatever you pay the lawyer. You'll get back a couple demerit points at the least, and possibly get the actual ticket reduced, or given the option to be "on vehicular probation" for a year. This sounds like a tempting idea, however, even failing to signal properly or non-moving violations count towards this probation, at which time you face even stiffer penalties.
