Fortunately though I am not underwater on that note, I'm now at the break even point which is what spurred me to get the sale process started

what the fuck, is that keyshawn johnson in pink suit and clashing shirt?
So we're at about 40,000 miles and it's time for new tires. The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx it came with didn't have a ton of life left when we bought it anyway. I was pretty sold on the Nitto Motivos until I read some very contradictory reviews that made me nervous. I was looking for a good high performance all season that would have really good wet traction and decent enough winter weather traction for us to be able to take it up north to visit family. I didn't think I would end up buying another Dunlop, but the new version of the Signature HP seems to be performing extremely well. It outperformed most other tires in a wet weather comparison on TireRack, including the BF Goodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S which costs about $125 more after rebates. Overall, it very closely stacked up to the BF Goodrich but for the price and the fact that it had a 500 AA A vs. 400 AA A treadwear rating I thought the Dunlops would be worth a try.
TireRack actually did an instrumented test on the Signature HP vs. the BF Goodrich, General G-MAX AS-03 and Hancook Ventus S1 Noble2. Being a data guy I ate it up and felt the Dunlops had the best value per performance out of the bunch. I guess time will tell! Here is the review including a video:

ironically, i just installed my comp-2 A/S's yesterday, so it'll be great to share our thoughts over the coming months between the two.
if it got a little colder here in the winter, and if i put more miles on my car i very likely may have gone with the Dun-dun's. i don't think you can necessarily go wrong with either, and the price difference is legit although I got my set with a $70 rebate during the sale in the spring.
tire tech these days is awesome

I also had a set of comp-2 A/S installed on Friday. So far they are so grippy! I had the windows down driving through the Wegmans parking garage and could hear the tires "sticking" to the concrete. A reviewer did say they experienced this, but I didn't believe it. Fancy tread pattern is nice too. Did you get the $70 rebate?

Nice rebate! If the Comp-2 A/S had the same rebates I probably would have gone with them because it definitely edged the Dunnies out on overall performance. Let's definitely share notes. Anything is going to be better than these beat up SP Sport Maxxes, not sure why that tire was on this car in the first place, this isn't a sports car.

yup! it was only 70 degrees yesterday (yeah yeah) but they were picking up gravel and throwing it all over the bottom of the car. i'm sure part of that is the normal stickiness all new tires have but the tread is pretty gummy for a high treadwear. i didn't get to flog them yet and i need to see what pressures the shop put in them and start tweaking.
the tread looks like it will be awesome in the rain. huge channels and very directional.
yep, bought them during the rebate and sat on them for like 6 months while my Kumhos died off.

yeah the rebate was what pushed me to get them. i had a few others in mind that i would have gotten instead if they were priced normally, including the Duns.

New tires are massively better so far. The service writer was not our usual chap and apparently he was kind of a dick to my wife when she came in which fired me up. After the alignment he called me and said that they were able to get everything in spec except for the front two wheels which were left at -2* camber. My wife said he tried to blame her asking if she had been in an accident or hit a really bad pothole (which we have done neither since we owned it). His recommendation was to replace both of the struts. I told him we're good, my old TL-S couldn't be aligned to close to 0* camber for the front wheels either straight from the factory. I ended up buying a camber kit for that car. Unless someone here educates me otherwise, it's my understanding that it's toe that kills tires not necessarily camber.
I do have to take it back because they didn't "center" the steering wheel (to keep the car straight you have to keep the wheel turned right about 5-8*) and I am going to make sure our normal service writer puts their A team mechanics on it. Even with those things, the new tires feel so much better. Much more comfortable over bumps and road imperfections. Very curious to see how these handle the elements!

Ugh, that sucks.
-2* of camber up front sounds great to me, it just means the thing will have more grip through off-ramps
And which lazy tech didn't bother to straighten the wheel? I never understand how something that obvious (should have been caught when driving it out of the shop) makes it back to the customer.

Honestly I don't know. I'm so picky about who works on our cars and the one day when I had to rearrange the day and time we were dropping it off they hand us off to the C squad. With my Jag I am so anal about it I only work with one tech in particular (his name is Chris) and I've brought him pizza and donuts on several occasions to make sure I don't get the ole service hand-off.

i run -2 on the front of the impreza with zero toe....my last all seasons went over 30k miles and still had life left when i took them off, only the inside tread was close to the wear bars. that includes hooning, rallycrossing, and a full track weekend on them. you should be just fine.

So what you're saying is that Lee's wife should start doing ^ these things in her Acura?
Because I'd support that.

Hahaha I love it. Would be hilarious to see my little Rachael hucking that SUV around a mud course.
Acura dealer has it back in this morning fixing the steering wheel thing. Thanks for the feedback on the camber. The service writer we normally use said the RDX actually doesn't have adjustable front camber so something weird must be going, but again with my prior experience with factory Acura camber I'm just going to chalk it up as normal Japan canyon driftoh battle stage suspension setup.
They gave us a TLX loaner which was interesting to get in after my prior ownership of the TL Type-Esssuhhhh. Come a long way, double clutch 8 speed, etc. It has the weirdest shift selector though:
It's like a button push thing? I thought my dial was weird and have grown to like it but this thing I dunno

If they're going to take up the same amount of space as a regular shifter, why not just... use a shifter? I saw that in TLX reviews and found it odd...

Fuck this one in particular. Why did they have to make it so not user friendly? First time I drove an e90 m3 I just hopped in and went. Trevor didn't explain to me that there is really no "park" setting. You just set the ebrake in neutral or some shit. I sat there for a solid 5 minutes trying to figure out how to not let the car roll away.

Pfft, Jon, park is the big button that says "P" on the top.
That shifter actually didn't bother me much after I was told to push the button on the side to engage R or D.
Never understood the Mercedes one that does a wonderful imitation of the wiper stalk.
