Yeah I dunno if those had any stability electronics or just regular traction control. And yeah it is at Shenandoah, seems like the perfect track for a bunch of little hatchbacks to scamper around.

First few laps in traffic so I'll give you 8 laps. And at least 250 deg oil temp (which would be fine)

Just saw this on VW Vortex.
Quote:One of the first changes I would like to make to my MkVII is to European lighting, at least the taillights. I realize the GTI in Europe comes with LED tails, but I guess it's the regular Golf that has essentially our same tails, but with amber turn signals?
Mother of God, we've come full circle.

I am pretty sure there is someone on here who removed the stock e46 m3 taillights and replaced them with the amber tail lights from the early e46s, so maybe he can explain the aesthetic advantages.

I did it like 3-4 years ago, so I'm maybe I'm exempt if it's becoming a trend? Anyway it's just an amber film/overlay and I did it to match the stickers on my flatbrim.

I do remember the tide turning in the BMW world a few years ago, probably when BMW themselves stopped selling cars with amber lenses, everyone decided to go back the other direction. I've had people tell me I should do ambers on my car and I'm like really? Sunflower Yellow and 90's Plastic Orange? Thanks but no.
It seems like the VW people just have to fuckin' change everything for the sake of changing it. So many guys have already swapped out grills, trim, headlights, taillights, etc. Some of them bitch so much I don't know why they bought the car. "The B-Pillar is too shiny" :evileye:
I personally think the US got the best looking taillights, the Euro LED one are too busy, the euro non-LED don't actually have an amber lens but are more like the "Egg Yolk" look of my E36 lenses where you have a clear lens but can see the orange bulb, doesn't look nearly as clean as the US all-red ones. :dunno:

At least we don't have anyone advocating doing this:
This is the worst goddamn thing you can do to a vehicle aesthetically and yet people still do it. Sure it may have some functional use at night but it looks like you have bowls of piss for headlights.

I like some cars with frenched lights but usually on retro stuff like E30s and pre-1990 Benzes. It looks better when its just the high beam or fog instead of the entire lens, that audi is pretty awful.

Really only two minor complaints with the car.
1.) The radio is wonky as fuck. In addition to being a slower and generally crappier interface than most other cars in the market, it just does random shit all on its own. Every few weeks I'll get in it and the radio will have changed itself to 87.7. Other times I go to switch from radio to bluetooth and it mutes itself. Every couple of weeks it completely forgets how to bluetooth and I have to turn it off and on again in the menu. I swear the other day a parking distance sensor screen popped up for a second before the car remembered it doesn't have that option. :dunno: There is a fix for it, but they want the car for half a day and don't to give me a loaner for "just a software update" so I've been reluctant to take it in because it does work most of the time.
2.) This is completely, 100% due to my own dumbfuckery, but I don't fit in the 4-door very well and I just didn't notice when I was all pumped full of test-driving excitement. I'm so tall and skinny that the seat belt goes over me and not around me. The shoulder belt just sort of tickles my chest and gets caught on the buttons of my shirt while driving. I actually went in to the dealer to see if there was any possible way to snug it up (there isn't), and I noticed that the older 4-door and all of the 2-door cars have the belt buckle mounted on a flexible wire, whereas the new 4-doors are mounted on a stiff piece of metal about 4" from the corner of the seat for reasons that are beyond me.
Ultimately for normal driving it's just a minor annoyance, but I have a feeling its going to be more than minor when I'm bouncing around in the seat like a ping pong ball during the dub deliverance HPDE next month. In retrospect I probably would've bought a 2 door, but that comes with it's own disadvantages that i'd be bitching about if I had. I started a thread about this on VWVortex and we concluded if you're a really tall/thin person you're kinda shit out of luck unless you want to drive a Crown Vic or a 5-series or something.
Otherwise, it's great. I love that I can put it in "normal" mode, roll the windows up, throw it in D and 1-finger cruise to work with a great sound system and chilly A/C. Then after I drop the dog off at daycare I can put it in "M" mode and "sport" to make the engine all fake growly, and finish my commute "like I've sat on a wasp" to quote the venerable Jeremy Clarkson.
I never did take any decent photos of the thing, but I at least got some crappy iphone photos just for documentation purposes that it was nice and new once.
I have no concrete modification plans but I am eyeballing a few gadgets I might pick up eventually. Tempted by the "clip on" tuning boxes that add ~45ft-lbs but can be removed and are undetectable by the warranty police. I'd like to get a vent mounted boost gauge just for fun, and maybe an air intake and/or a "turbo muffler delete" to increase the induction/turbo noises a little bit.

There's a whole group of potential buyers that were so pissed we didn't get the nice 8" touch screen the euro cars get, they decided to wait for the 2016 models. Now that those are around the corner, its either the same screen size or maybe 1/2" bigger, and has a mildly updated software that appears to be a bit smoother from some demo videos. I suspect it'll be the same mildly updated software I get whenever I take the car in. Apparently the e-Golf is the only one getting the nice 8" unit in our market.
All the guys that waited a year to buy are pissed.
