I think my biggest concern with the dip is that it might not look too good without a legit spray gun, no?

I was looking up applying vinyl and it looks tricky but requires less equipment. Just patience and precision, y'know? The outcome is more predictable too, no weird lines or light spots and dark spots or anything. And if i wanted to change the whole car to black I'd rather just continue to finish and wrap the whole car instead of plasti-dipping.

Anyways, I have a radiator, valve cover seal, spark plugs, spark plug seals and window seals to change before I get to that. One step at a time.

Google said they're both fairly easy to clean. Eh, we'll see what happens in the future. I am leaning more towards vinyl wrap though.

You can do flat or flat and apply a gloss coat over it afterwards. Sanding won't aid the dip but it won't hurt it either. If sprayed on probably (as in enough coats) I don't see why it wouldn't be just as durable as vinyl.

Edit: although a spray gun would make it easier and faster, that much area could be done with a rattle can. I dipped my entire motorcycle white, the put a gold pearl on it And a clear gloss top coat

I'm bored in class, so i'm gonna make a very quick winter behavior report....cause its not like you guys have ANY IDEA what an e36 is like in the winter lol.

First, it doesn't want to turn on. It does about a thousand cranks and then finaally it breathes life. Second, its grumpy as fuck. Idle is really rough and threatens to shut off and even starts shaking the whole damn car. Gotta hold the revs at 1k to keep it alive. About 3 mins of that and shes back to normal.

Alright, time to go. Trucking along no problemo. Time to engage second - *slam* - second engaged.

Its pretty much the same story for every gear until about 15 min of driving.

Wow. Ok. I can deal. Then the whole car starts to crook and squeak out of every corner and suspension piece. Oh yeah! Steering gets super tight too.

This car just has NO INTENTIONS of doing any work below 30degrees.

1. Clean your MAF. My M3 idles the same way when it's cold.

2. Change your transmission fluid. That'll help. Also keep in mind that it's like peanut butter when it's so cold out, so it'll be hard to shift. Shouldn't be that bad, but I doubt it's ever been changed. Two quarts of fluid will do ya. Easy to change and pretty cheap, too.

3. Creaks, well, yeah - it's an E36

I'd clean the ICV too, that will definitely screw with your idle, some degree of grumpiness when cold is pretty normal though.

All manual cars I've had are grumpy when they're extremely cold, but my E36 is the worst about it. Try double clutching when it's super cold for the first few shifts. I used to have to do that to get it into 2nd without forcing it.

And yeah, my car sounds like Geppeto's fuckin' workshop when it's cold.

Has anyone upgraded the speaker system in their e36? What worked for ya? I'd like to know.

I blew my back left speaker over break on accident. It's okay though, the stock one's were shit anyways.

Oh wow yeah $600 is kind of up there lol. I'm doing some research, but basically I just need it to be better than stock and handle songs with alot of bass turnt up. I don't want a sub. Gotta look up the specs on the stock speakers and see where needs improvement and just go from there. Whats generally a trusted brand for speakers?

Do you have to have some fancy German spec BMW speakers or can you just go on amazon and order whatever? Always had good experience with Polk audio and pioneer. Might be worth it to roll over to the crutch field store here and see if they have any open box specials/sales.

I have the BSW kit and upgraded to the stock HK speaker amp, which is a great all-round solution, but it's obviously really expensive. I think I'm having issues with my headunit because I'm not getting sound to all of the speakers and I've already checked the wiring and replaced the amp.

As far as a brand, I'd just see what gets the best reviews on crutchfield and go from there. I've always been partial to kenwood, but if the $300 head unit I bought 4 years ago actually is broken, that dampens that enthusiasm a bit.

I'm an Alpine fanboi although I never knew why. Components are the way to go though. Turning the bass up and trying to make a midrange a sub is going to sound like shit No matter what make you use though.

Read reviews on crutchfield as well. Usually written by somewhat knowledgable customers. Also their customer service is really good. Great support and fast shipping. I've used crutchfield for multiple head units/component orders and never been disappointed.
