Have any of you DC area people been to Echostage yet? I feel like we might have already talked about it in this thread. I saw Porter Robinson there the last time I was up that way, definitely a cool venue. My brother just saw Above & Beyond there and he said it was by far the best show he has seen by any DJ anywhere, including Tiesto at the same venue. They even dug deep and spun old school Oceanlab Satellite!! He said most of the people he was with didn't recognize that song but they blew that place up. Brings a tear to my eye knowing I instilled a solid love of trance in the younger generation :lol:

For you old schoolers, Paul Oakenfold posted up on his face page a soundcloud link to the very first Radio 1 Essential Mix he produced from 20 years ago. He also has commentary during the set which give you a glimpse into his head when putting it together. Pretty cool, because the Radio 1 EMs were a really important part of the development of my love for trance and EDM. Those mixes got me through a lot of tough times in college, no joke. I even ripped one of AVB's first ever big premier sets on Radio 1 myself and lost it years ago after my hard drive crashed. I listened to that set every single night when I was going to sleep of my sophomore - senior year. Fortunately I had sent it out to a couple of friends and last year after a facebook APB one of them happened to find it in an old external drive and sent it over to me. If any of you guys ever want to hear it let me know and I can send it your way somehow, I may be one of the only people who ever made an MP3 of that set.

yes! that's 7 flavors of awesome. i may need to bug you for that set.

most of my favorite shows from the old days are Radio 1 or Ministry of Sound stuff. you really had to hunt down the mp3's, it was tough to find good ones of those shows. Oakenfold was one of the first guys I really followed along with Pete Tong, Judge Jules, PVD, etc.

Been big on The Thrillseekers (Steve Helstrip) lately and I finally just went ahead and bought his 3 Nightmusic albums because their songs are always popping up on my dialed in Pandora station and are some of my favorites:


Had a $5.00 coupon so they were less than $40.00 total for like 6 cds! I couldn't find digital versions of all 3 albums so I will just rip them myself for the usb stick for the Jag and my phone. I love seeing some of the "lesser known" DJs but that are true innovators yet stay true to their old school roots. I follow him on Facebook and he is literally sitting in a room in his house making this incredible music. So awesome.

I listen to his free podcasts almost exclusively now in my car so I love supporting artists like this. I also like the fact that there is a really fair suggested price and you can offer more if you like.
