naw dont worry about that. If the car isnt actually boucing its idle than its fine. If it is going up and down in revs first thing to look at is your Idle Air Control Valve. Older cars tend to have those needles that kinda "shake" around and ive noticed no side effects. My moms car between 20 and 30 now does it a bit but I havent noticed anything else.

well a quick update.

recently I have acquired two honda badges (yeehaw), two armrests , and in the next couple weeks I will be putting in new suspension.

one of the armrests is supposedly jdm because it extends all the way to the rear seat, whatever, i got both for 30bucks and now have rooms for more crap in my car... Smile

as for suspension I'm putting a set of eibach pro dampers (unless i decide differently in the next 3 days) with a set of meganracing adjustable coilover sleeves on the car.

In a couple weeks i'll also be picking up a front strut bar from a friend

This brings me to my final point. i think what i'm going to do now is not be cheap and but legit suspension parts over the next couple years, and eventually moving to a built engine (undetermined), with the plan to make a dedicated auto-x/track car. while i'm doing all the suspension i'll get practice driving and not worry about any engine mods. I'm going to leave wheels and tires for last unless i get a ridiculously good deal, and i'm also going to do body work and get a new paint job at some point (just to make me happy). other than that there will be no engine work except regular maintenance so ya'll can hop off the hate-train Tongue

That sounds like a good plan, but I would probably bump the new wheels and tires to sometime sooner than later. Getting a lighter set of wheels will theoretically make your car faster, but more importantly can be sized to get a better choice of tires. Tires are the small contact that keep your car on the road, so getting a good set will also make your car faster in turns b/c of the increased grip (but may wear out faster too). Until you've got a lot of seat time, you'll probably notice and appreciate the wheel/tire improvement a lot faster than replacing suspension bits.

agreed, i do want to get a wider wheel with some kind of performance tire, but right now, i'm simultaneously fixing my bad suspension. there have been several times that i've walked out to my car and noticed that it was sitting at a tilt, because the left side suspension is shot. so after that, once i acquire a good amount of money, wheels and tires will come soon.

You might want to talk to Mike or Navin about suspension setups. At least Megan Racing in my experience with dsms and friends that had them on cars is they are junk, not only in spring rate, but sagging and rusting.

you can't really go wrong with the megan racing collars, but i definitely wouldn't use their springs. i'd also recommend kyb agx over the eibach things you're looking at. a tiny bit pricier, but worth it.

Did anyone see that mythbusters episode about polishing a turd?

They should have tried it with a Civic DX.

As far as wheels and tires go... Miata wheels will fit a Civic and Mazda made some very light wheels over the years. Both 14" and 15" sizes - Honda used a very similar design as what's on my car on the Civic HX I think.

You could get a nice set of summer tires for very cheap with 14/15s. I love my Azenis and they cost me about $400, shipped and mounted and balanced.

miata wheels have a different hub bore. i forget if it's larger or smaller. i think it's smaller; miata wheels require boring to fit.

I hear what everyone is saying, and yes i agree. part of the reason i'm going this route is like i said because the left side of the suspension is pretty much shot. so i'm trying to get mild performance for a decent price, on my budget, which making 7.50 an hour at enterprise because no one else would hire me, is forcing me to be a little cheap. of course i would love to get the kyb's but i just can't afford it. i also just bought new tires and a new windshield so funds are especially low, and if i don't buy now then i won't buy later. the main thing it comes down to is, "the car was purchased for 2 grand, do i really want to spend an addtional 200 on kyb's" and my answer is no....not right now. maybe later when i'm making more money, but for now, i'd like to get something decent on there. and from what i've heard, the setup i'm trying should be ok for all practical purposes.

so, yeah, got my windshield replaced today which means i can get my inspection done hooray!! Smile

SLAMMED.

put on the new suspension. ran into a couple problems which led me to welding up some steel bushings for the lower control arms (anyone have any for sale?), but long story short, it's lowered. so far i really like the ride quality, it's bumpy, but it's fun, not violent. handles well so far, but an autocross will be the real test. also, so far i've noticed that i'm losing traction around turns most likely because of the tires, so the next thing will be a new set of wheels and summer tires. that is all for now, i will post pictures soon.
