Yeah man. First AutoX in the XR, stock wheels and old crappy tires! Should make for a funny scene if nothing else!

I'm impressed by the GT, but couldn't they update the styling....something new...all it seams like ford can do is go retro. It's as if the mustang is Ford's "safety play" They know people will buy them because it looks like the older ones. Where's the talent? While car import car companies are pushing the limits of innovation, Ford, GM are relying on the days of old to sell current cars.
I know I'm going to take shit for saying this, but I think American car companies need to wake up and smell the imports

Yes, you are going to take shit. And because this is all subjective, so will I
I *love* the new Ford GT's styling. I don't think that retro is all that bad - especially considering that it gives a new generation the chance to experience a classic look. And in the case of the Mustang, I think the new car is simply taking some of the familar shapes of the old and applying modern design. I don't know if I like it yet, but it's growing on me.
That all being said, I (personnally) think that many of the recent imports look like ass. STi? Ugly. Evo? Ugly. Z33? Interesting, but not great. I think the G35 is much hotter. Z32 is the ultimate hotness from Nissan, as everyone knows NSX - YES! HELL YES! Civic SI? Barf. TSX? Sharp. Accord Coupe? Ass. IS300? Bling. A little too bling. And I could go on and on...
Where American car companies could really take a lesson is in interiors - as long as they don't look at Subarus  The recent premium offerings from Ford and Chevy have gotten high marks on interior quality, but jeebus it took a long time...

I wonder why those particular folks in that picture ditched the GT grille?

Because those big round lights made it look like the Mustang swallowed a Neon

worked for porsche with the 997. and BMW with the Z8. the PT cruiser is quite successful too.
believe me i'm not a mustang fan at all, but the new one looks amazing. and now, it actually has a chassis that's almost as good as the looks.

sorry...it's exam week and I'm tense...it's my automatic reflex against being anything remotely close to a redneck. I'm born and raised in this town, but I won't claim it.
I shouldn't bust on the mustang. It's just personal preference. And the reaction of a polo-wearing, golfer, going to a prodominately farm-boy high school. I want to distance myself from the climate of this area and the car of choice could effect that.
I mean not to rag. I apologize.

agreed! I hate the GT front grill.
Retro styling is an Art, ford did an A+ job w/ the GT, B- w/ the '05 mustang and Chevy, well, chevy f'ed up w/ their SSR.

I like the GT, the new mustang looks terrific IMO and would consider getting a Cobra w/ the IRS in a few years, and the SSR is one of the ugliest cars on the market. I saw that hideous purple POS around town last weekend and had to fight the urge to puke.

I have been hyping the hell outta this event everywhere locally, so hopefully the pre-reg will be full shortly. I have also been sketching some rough course designs that will be bigger/faster/trickier/better than the last one. And I've found a good solution to the need for that nasty finish we had at the last one.
Let's hope for more great weather. See ya there!
