I think all three moves they made yesterday were good. The Shaun Alexander signing had to be done because we only had two running backs for the next few weeks and he already knows all the protection/blocking schemes in Jim Zorns offense. We could have signed Marcus Mason off the ravens practice squad, but then we'd be required to give him a roster spot for the rest of the year, whereas we could cut Alexander when Betts is healthy.
I said during the game that Brooks was going to get released this week, he didn't have a decent kick all game and looked pitiful. I still support the decision to get rid of Derek Frost though, if there was less than 5 minutes left in a game he was guaranteed to shank one.
Finally they signed Mike Green at safety because Reed Doughty had to be placed on IR. He played on Greg Blache's defense in chicago and was pretty good.
PS. The Cowboys got raped on Roy Williams. Giving up a 1st, 3rd, and 6th? Ridiculous.

I was kinda pissed about the details until someone I work with broke it down for me.
They were already going to spend a #1 next year on a WR so that's kinda a wash. They had two #3 so they gave up one. They give (Tennessee's) #6 to get Detroit's #7 and they get #5 from Tennessee because of Pacman's suspension PLUS the #6 they're giving to Detroit.
I realize Pacman wasn't part of the same deal but all they've really done to change their draft order in the last 2 days is use their one on an established WR (instead of another rookie) and give up a #3 to get a #7.
If William's doesn't pan out, I don't think they would be any worse off than taking a chance on a 1st round WR. Of course, I am drinking the Kool Aid so what do I know.
FWIW, their current draft picks.
Round 1: No picks
Round 2: One pick (Dallas)
Round 3: One pick (from Cleveland)
Round 4: Two picks (Dallas, from Detroit)
Round 5: Two Picks (Dallas, from Tennessee)
Round 6: One Pick (from Miami)
Round 7: Two Picks (Dallas, from Detroit)

You'd whine too if you were on the Lions.
This is true, but having another star on the team is not going to sit well with TO. It looks to me like Jerry Jones wants it all now and if it doesn't pan out the boys could be hurting for a few years dealing w/ the cap.

Williams said the first phone call he received after the trade was from Owens, who has complained recently about not getting enough catches in an offense that lost quarterback Tony Romo this week for perhaps a month with a broken finger in his throwing hand.
Jerry Jones said Owens was "elated and beside himself" upon hearing the trade. Williams said he and T.O. talked about winning.
Of course that could just be TO faking it.
Crayton doesn't demand, or even really necessitate, double coverage. I'm guessing TO likes the Williams deal because that means safetys will have to cover over the top of Williams and TO will eventually be open more often.
Where they really need to be concerned is at CB.

Idunno, I hate the cowboys and I cant spin this thing as anything but a very good thing for them.
The redskins wrote the book on how to shut down TO and the past couple games teams have (mostly) read it.
With another fast, big playmaker WR lining up, that changes things entirely. Both WRs are going to make a lot more plays now because you cant shut them both down at the same time.
btw, wtf happened to Reed Doughty? I thought he just had the flu? I was getting tired of him making mistakes but he is still a ton better than slower-than-a-LB Chris Horton.
Chris: "Willians said he and TO talked about whining"
Evan, hate on Chris Horton? Whaaaat? If he continues his play he'll likely get defensive player of the year... And he was a 6th rounder. I don't follow.

I was all about Chris Horton when he made a splash with some picks, but that doesnt mean he is a great player. He only made 4 picks in his entire college career. I hope Im wrong but I dont think he has the speed or range to start at saftey and lately it looks like he doesnt have the brains either.
i'm not saying he is great player, but the fact is he's caused many turnovers and lost yards... every player is going to make a few mistakes. from what i've seen, he's been a great asset.

Horton led the team in tackles last game and had 3 behind the line of scrimmage, he was all over the place. I thought he looked like the best player on our defense against the Rams. He's definitely gotten beat a few times, but that's usually because of miscommunications or missed assignments. That's just par for the course for a rookie and it will happen less and less as he becomes more comfortable with the defense.
I think he's our best draft pick this year and he was picked 3rd from last in the entire draft.

yeah what the hell is up with Devin Thomas ? Deshawn Jackson gets drafted after him but is tearing shit up.
Eddie Royal is tearin it Denver too.
Devin Thomas wasn't really a polished receiver coming out of college though, he was more of a project. Desean Jackson was seen as the guy ready to produce right away who ran a pro style offense, but Thomas ran a lot of screens, reverses and simple routes to easily get the ball in his hands. That's why Thomas slipped out of the 1st round, he has all the measurables, but isn't a great route runner yet.
However, a 6'3" 220 lb receiver that can run a 4.35 40 is an absolute freak, like TO but faster. They're hoping he turns in to that kind of dominant player in the next couple years. On the other side, a lot of people doubt that Jackson, who is only 170 lbs, will be able to stay healthy for a whole season. He's had injury problems in the past and that's why he generally slipped down draft boards.
The guy I'm most disappointed in is Malcolm Kelly. He has all the talent in the world and can't stay healthy to save his life.

yes. he was supposed to be the best punter since... whoever the really great last punter was. shit, in college he pretty much was. who knows what happened in the past year?
Feersty Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:Feersty Wrote:The article in the post following Derrick Frost departure. He sure was pissed. Claimed he was dealt with unfairly.
egads! not a professional athlete claiming that his negotiations with the team were unfair? stop the presses! alert the local authorities!
He was dropped for a rookie that has never played a down. Frost(He) wanted people to think Vinny Cerrato made a mistake by drafting the rookie punter, and dropping him. But he doesn't think the Redskins want to admit that they made a mistake, so they booted his arse.
I don't think they should have gotten rid of Frost.

a wins a win....
it sure was great watching the rams stomp all over dallas!
why do the skins never allow me to actually be happy with a win? i'm always left with great anxiety and hatred for at least one player.

I'm kind of glad that I can't get the games here... whenever I watch the Skins they lose. And they won today!

It's amazing how the skins can put up 440 yards of offense and still not look good because of all the penalties. At least they won.
