We're doing the big brother OBDII thing. They say you run it for six months, so I'll see where we land after the dust settles. We do 6500 miles total a year for the two primary cars and drive pretty chill, so I can't really see it penalizing us much. Either way, I'll make the call on renewal if they jack our rate for no reason.
We were with Geico for almost eight years. Kinda surprising given I check every other year or so.
Looks like American Collectors is $200 every six. That's $75 cheaper than Hagerty. Well, shit.....

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
Time of day matters for those big brother devices, not just how you drive, so try not to drive at night during your 6 mos evaluation.
When I looked into Hagerty a year or two ago for my Exige, it turned out to be about the same $, but for much better coverage. I should have switched but ended up being lazy.
Right now going from 5 cars to 2, Im looking at going from $440/month to around $100.
When I had 5 vehicles, the per mile insurance was really attractive, it would have cut my bill roughly in half. I doubt it would make much sense now though because the base rate is still pretty close to regular insurance

The allstate tracker I tried a few years ago was tagging me for 2-3 hard braking events in the Fit, every week, which I thought was crazy as I was driving like a grandpa and just to/from work. Turned out the section of 42 that was 55mph and has a stoplight was triggering their algorithm. I forget the math I did it but it was something stupid like you would need 1/8 of a mile to slow down for a red light and not trip the eye of sauron. I did attempt to reason with a couple levels of mgmt there, but it was fruitless so I just sent it back to them and said I'd be happy to try again when they have reasonable metrics.

I think I have a 1 year policy with them, does that vary by state?

Allstate for the vette was $453 every 6 months, and when I switched to state farm, it went on a separate policy for $97 for 6 months.
We had 4 cars (3 drivers) for $178/month and when we added Michael and the subie, he was $180/month alone. (ouchie) Which seemed pretty standard though, about all our friends that added their 16 yr old kids had the same "doubled our insurance" impact.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

Hard braking is gonna be where we might have the problem. We don't live downtown, but we're squarely in the city so stop lights are life. We don't commute and rarely drive after dark, so we should be good on the time of day thing. I thought about doing per mileage insurance, but it felt like I'd never want to drive cause it would cost money. I get you still save overall... my brain just likes the flat fee thing. It's not logical.
American Collectors is a year policy. I converted it to six month cost since all my other numbers were per six months.
Of course I've already gotten and email and a phone call from them to finish my application. That's annoying.

I have never deluded myself that a tracker would get me a lower rate.... maybe when I’m 80.

These days I drive once a week, it's <20 miles round trip and if I want to go vroom, I can take the 911.
I feel like I might be able to game it pretty well... but they may still try to hose me with it.
