Agreed, I like the cream and the dark grey. Dark grey is sold out on the site right now for the discount though, so white and cream are the only ones he could nab at 30% off

Data point: I forgot to wear a watch today and was kinda lost when entering my building because I was close to being late for a meeting but i didn't have a hand free to pull my phone out and check the time. The value is real... but I'm biased.

Mike, I legit think a nice watch will get ladies' attention.

Very nice! Reminds me of the minimalist style in Brathwaits. Sapphire crystal and a Rhonda movement should make for a nice watch over the long run.

I'm just waiting for some of you guys to start diving into the quirky world of automatics 8)

I feel like if I've thought of something, it surely exists already, but, is there a service that allows you rent watches, or just delivers watches to you on a regular shipment like a trunk club/birch box/bark box/etc type deal?

I wouldnt use it, but there's gotta be some money in that one for guys that want to cycle through watches without the buying/selling.

I had that watch repair guy go over my grandfather's watch and he ended up replacing the gasket on the back of the case, replacing a few bent/wrong size spring pins, putting a new battery in it and giving it a good thorough cleaning. The cleaning loosened up some of the ugly corrosion on the case and it looks a lot better now.

So then I started researching that thing out of curiosity, and reading about old Seikos, then I started talking to Lee, and all of a sudden I've become a "watch guy." Goddammit.

I was eyeballing this really simple 38mm Tissot at that shop, and ended up going back last week to pick it up while it was still 35% off. It came on a black alligator strap but I had him swap it over to a brown band.

Yesterday I threw my LG Urbane up on /r/watchexchange because I figured it'd be easier than a straight sale and I ended up having a few offers roll in within the hour. I'm swapping it for an Orient Wingman Automatic, I actually need to go drop it in the mail later today.

I'm sort of tempted to throw it back on there in a month and see what I can trade it for with a max of $20 on my end. Maybe I can do it every month or so and end up with an IWC in 5 years.

I've seen one where you pay like $20 a month to get a watch "worth $50" every month, but one member gets a Rolex. There's also that Eleven James company where you make a small car payment to borrow a five-figure watch for the month.

Joey and I were actually talking about Eleven James the other day (I think I brought it up on this thread many pages ago). While the concept of effectively short term leasing a high end watch is pretty asinine, there is one situation to me where it could actually make a lot of sense. I will use a real life example:

I'm too pragmatic to buy one of my "grail" watches any time soon but I would like to buy a dream watch if I have the means when I retire. I have a short list of these I have developed over the years and occasionally add to when a new one hits my radar. I have experienced this with low-mid level watches which is loving the concept or design of a specific watch but not enjoying it as much when it arrives and I actually wear it. The Citizen I have for sale right now is a great example...the watch itself is amazing, has every feature you could want and is super light and comfortable. But it didn't meet my visual expectations when it arrived as the colors in real life are much different than pretty much every picture I had seen. Also, wearing a watch is much different than "seeing" a watch. Unfortunately, depending on what you are shopping for sometimes it can be nearly impossible to find a real life example to try on before you buy. In others, just trying on a watch once doesn't really give you the full experience of living with it every day. I tried on a $12k+ GMT Master II two tone at a Rolex dealer in Dallas and liked it, but it didn't give me the immediate feeling that I would want to live with it every day.

Here's where Eleven James makes sense, if you're truly in the market for a high end watch and want to "try before you buy" it's not a bad option really. It lets you live with a watch without making a big expensive commitment that you would regret and potentially lose a lot of money in its resale to get something else you like better. That's never really been an issue with me before because I've never owned anything expensive enough where it mattered, but if you're shopping for a high 4 figure - low 5 figure watch my thought would be that you want to be damn sure you like it before you pull the trigger.

Anyway, that's my only devil's advocate argument for a service that otherwise screams "$30,000 millionaire" to me.

Hey, I've got my Tag!

Here's my collection. I haven't worn any of the ones at the bottom, except for the Tag, for years. I'll probably unload them at some point over the next year to make room for my Brietling!

Good choice on the Tag! Carrera right? I can't tell.

Which Breitling was on your hit list? I can't remember. The Navi Blue Sky is on my Grail List:

(I tried it on in the full length mirror at an AD in St. Thomas....BAD IDEA. That was the opposite of my Rolex experience, I had to physically tear it off my wrist and LA LA LA with my fingers in my ears when the sales lady asked me how I liked it  )

Ok, what if its not a 'high end' watch? I get the sense that you people (watch nerds) buy and sell their 'every day use' watches fairly frequently. Is there a service that lets you rent/try/trade around the high 3-figure/low 4-figure watches?

I want this Breitling Montbrillant. I think I decided I'm going to buy it for myself if/when I get promoted.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/">http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/</a><!-- m -->

Also a lot of high end stuff on there but mostly low to mid level stuff. There are a few sites that are popular like WUS that are free, another one is Chrono24: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.chrono24.com/">http://www.chrono24.com/</a><!-- m -->

The "Enthusiast" package from Eleven James dips into the low 4-figure range on some of the available stuff they offer, but I guess you're asking if there's a market for a middle ground. I would think there would be at a better price point, like $50-$75 per month that could get you into the mid level market (Oris, lower Tags, Grand Seiko, lower Breitlings, lower Omegas etc.)

Awesome pickup!! Tissot has really nailed that clean dial look  . Its also that perfect medium that allows you to go either way and dress it up or down with an outfit..

I've been on a German kick lately; I picked up a Stowa Partitio last year and put it on a light brown ostrich band almost exactly like this. Similar to the Tissot, its a 37mm and seems to fit my smaller wrist well.
