It's pretty rough, I must admit. With some tweaking on the controls and practice, I'm getting reasonable with the Solstice but it's still hard to turn consistent laps. Driving the SRF is pretty tough, not only because it's more sensitive to inputs, but doesn't have ABS. And I've been playing racing games with a controller like this for what.... 12 years? (since PS1 GT)
Anyway, it's fun. For the first time in a racing game, I experienced a phenomenon I get from real track events. I got better when I slept on it. When I played Laguna last night, I was quite a bit better.
Join up.... they're replacing the slowstice with the MX-5 any day now....

Ok all, really, I don't think it's going to get any better than this without some sort of moving seat to simulate Gs or VR. If you spend any significant time playing racing sims, you owe it to yourself to spend $12 and try this game. No console game touches this. The physics are perfect and tracks incredible.
Just ran the new MX5 around for 3 hours, it's excellent.    I have yet to even do a race.

I did my first race last night at SPR w/ the SRF. This game is amazing. I have been using a control also, but I think I am going to do some research and get an actual wheel and petal set. The SRF is really touchy to drive (as I spun it while leading the race) esp. with the controller. One thing I do not like is that I have not found a way to get the car repaired after an accident during the race. If you take damage early it makes for a long race as it really effects the handling.

Oh, you joined! Sweet. I have a hard time with the SRF... I'm sure I'll get back to it once I get over the MX5. I'm pretty sure you can pit and get repaired... at least, I could in practice :dunno:

Hmm, I think I will check this out when I get a new monitor, but what the fuck is up with the pricing? $100 for a year? And I don't even own the game? Seems greedy to me. Pretty much guarantees that I'm only going to pay for a few months. Unless it is stupidly awesome and I can't resist.

well, do the $12 for 3 months and go from there, that's a good deal. I'm not sure I want to spend $100/yr on it either, plus tracks (and I'm already itching to buy VIR and Road ATL), plus I'll probably want a new monitor too, and maybe even something better than this controller..... I guess I'll figure that out 3 mo from now. I could honestly see replacing much of the real track habit with this one, in which case $100/yr is pocket change.
Not sure what kind of monitor you want, but FWIW, I'm playing on a 17" 4:3 monitor and having a blast. I have it like a foot from my face

Damn stop being so excited. Im going to see if any of my friends have a good wheel and foot controller. I went and got a ridiculously nice monitor 23" HD (at the time one of the only HD monitors whatever the fuck that means) that has been sitting on my desk forever doing nothing. If this can feed my itch 100/year aint too bad, considering a stupid XBOX game is 60 a pop.

It's pretty awesome to play. I am going to get a wheel though, the gamepad is an issue. If anyone is a SCCA member I got a year for $49 through them. The MX5 is a blast to drive (although I am quicker in my Spec Miata around Summit than the MX5 car thus far). I am going to buy VIR, Road Atlanta and Mid Ohio (mostly so I can do the MX5 races). I thought CMP was there, but sadly it isn't. Anyone have a recommendation for a good wheel? The racing is pretty good, so far I have only raced the SRF, but I have spent most of my time lapping the MX5. I tried to pit and get repairs during the race, but the only thing it did was hold me in the pits for 30 sec or so :dunno:
How much is it to "buy" extra tracks? Seems kinda ridiculous but I guess they gotta make money somehow if its realistic.

The prices are $11.95-$14.95 depending on track and number of configuations. VIR for example includes the Patriot, North, South, Full, and Grand courses and it's $14.95
Finally ran my first races last night. I had to focus on keeping my heartrate and breathing down so I didn't die. It's seriously the most fun I've ever had playing a game without serious amounts of alcohol and friends around.

btw, the 3 months for the price of one deal is on again, ends today. Put my email in if you join!

This is awesome. I replaced my game pad w/ a wheel that a friedn gave me and dropped several seconds a lap first time out. Picked up my first 2 wins this weekend
anybody see this? basically, the world's #1 i-Racing guy is given a shot at road atlanta in a single seater to see if he has any real life talent. apparently he does.

Yeah I saw that. Shame he didn't have the physical fitness to complete more laps. Maybe by the end of the day he could've gotten reasonably close to a respectable lap time.

Haha true, it was a respectable lap time considering. Maybe I should've said competitive with normal FM racer times.

Renewed my subscription for a year, bought a couple tracks (MidO, VIR, RA), got a 23" monitor now, so I'm having a good time! Debating what car to buy next. I'm kind of hoping they'll make a better series for the MX5 instead of the same two tracks over and over. Solstice, despite its suckyness is pretty fun since they run more tracks. I'll wait a bit but am likely to try the Skip Barber car, despite my lack of confidence in being able to control it properly without a wheel.

I'm having a lot of fun playing gt5 even with just the controller. A friend who lives right beside me is getting the g27 today so Saturday me and another friend are going over for hours of racing. Youtube videos look fun as hell.

Bought the skip last night, and it's awesome. Probably the easiest car to drive in the game, similar to the MX5 in that regard. But easier to slip, slide, recover. Ran around Summit 'till 2:30 I thought it would be a *little* faster straight line, but I'm not disappointed. I don't think I'll ever drive the Solstice again. There is a better series for the MX5 now too.
