There are many many more 4x100 wheels than any other type of aftermarket wheel.
i wasn't referring to hondas only.

i would also agree the 5 lug setup is to spread out the load on each stud. for instance, my accord only has 4 lugs, whereas the V6 accords have 5 lugs...even with just a 50 or so horsepower difference honda wanted to be sure the studs could handle it i guess. heavy duty pickups have up to 8 lugs i think. considering the weight of a truck and the hauling it may do it makes sense to have more lugs.

so why are manufacturers going with 5 lug instead of 4 lug? :wink:

fwd isn't the only drivetrain out there...

Maengelito Wrote:so why are manufacturers going with 5 lug instead of 4 lug? :wink:
jeebus, it's to support more weight
also the need for a guaranteed "no-stud-break" car, 5 pretty much guarantees that there won't be near enough stress on the studs to break them
part can also be it may be appealing to the eye, 4 may look weak, but 5 looks "stronger" of course this is bias, but whatever
newer cars get heavier every year thus the need to support more weight, esp with bigger engines, faster cars, and finely tuned suspensions.
is that sufficient....i believe the basis for the previous arguments can be extrapolated to incorporate all subjects as to why manufacturers are going toward the 5-lug setup
thanks jay, I think we've figured it out.

what?
where did that come from, lol?
::requesting logic::
Sadly DSM's (except for the gvr4) came with 5 lugs, over 14 years ago. This is a question I wouldn't have even thought of asking.

the only thing i could see Maeng thinking of is when i said the single lug was more beneficial in load bearing, but that's a whole different story...
i just kept asking cuz people kept asking even after the question was answered. nm

its super fun trying to find popular wheels (besides rotas) in that size...but thankfully bmw's also shared that bolt pattern. Thanks Shawn!
