For your first jacket i'd say stick with a perf leather one. Everyone crashes, may as well have a jacket that will survive it. Textile and mesh tend to be one crash jackets.

Just always wear your gloves, a jacket, and your helmet. I see so many fuckups riding around Tysons right now in their polos with their fancy bling watches trying to show their shit off.. and I see it because they're not wearing jackets or gloves.

It's something like for every foot you slide on asphalt, you lose a millimeter of flesh. That's not a good ratio in the event you go down. And the whole "But I'm not going to do anything stupid" argument is invalid, because you never know when there's sand/gravel/oil where you're about to drive through on a blind turn.

Mesh is definitely single use, but I still wear it all summer.

I used to ride mesh all summer... after my crash last october... i'll stick with the leather. I dont care if i show up sweaty... fuck'm

I wear mesh knowing full well it'll be a one crash deal because getting baked alive could lead to a crash anyway. I figure that in the 3 years or so I've been riding I've never had a crash where I slid for any amount of time on the pavement.

So for me to wear leather and get baked every day for something that just doesn't happen often if at all doesn't make sense for me. Being cool and comfy makes my riding much more enjoyable. If I do go down I'll have to get another jacket, but that's no big deal IMO.

Mine has made it through one without a scratch. Guess it depends on how you go down. I'd rather be comfy and replace mesh than be hot and have scratched leather.

Agreed. A very perforated jacket like the Teknic Chicane is surprisingly comfortable (and pretty cheap) in hot weather IMHO. Ok, enough sitting in traffic on an aircooled bike would start to suck, but I find that as long as I'm moving just a little, even my very sparsely perf Alpinestars is comfortable when it's 85+ deg. I could honestly wear it all day if I wanted to look super badass, it just doesn't provide much insulation.

well i wear a MotoGP leather jacket... and i like it because the interior armor stays in place. The Joe Rocket mesh i had, the armor moved around.

I did jump off, but i'd rather keep the armor where it is supposed to be... like when i impacted the ground! Smile

i have the very perforated Teknic Chicane jacket and i've still sweat a LOT on a hot day. I gave my passenger the mesh jacket (Joe Rocket Pheonix 5.0) and she was fine. After i dropped her off i rode with the mesh jacket and it was a night and day difference in cooling (no more sweating at all). I will wear mesh in 90+ heat as long as i'm not planning on going at consistantly higher speeds or on a ride out west.

I'm going up to MD on Friday to check out a CB350. A good friend of mine checked it out while he was up there and said it was in "mint" condition, so we'll see.

also I think I've started to settle on some gear.

jacket - Spidi Cyberfit - of all the jackets I've tried on this was the only one that I felt comfortable in and that "felt right" immediately so I took that to be a good sign.

As far as helmets go - what are yous guys thoughts on the ones with the little flip down sunglass-ish shield. It seems like a great idea to me cause I don't think any of my sunglasses will fit under a helmet and I would rather not have to stop and put them on whenever the sun was in my eyes.
