Any RX-8 owners/opinions?

I've said for a long time that the RX-8 was a magnificent car held back my a mediocre engine. The horses are too few for the fuel economy you get, and while the engine is probably mostly reliable (Heat is what makes wankels blow, and guess what turbos make lots of) it would be a truly amazing car if they put the MZR-DISI inside.

There's no real reason not to. If some icy hot stunta can put a 2JZ in there, there's plenty of room for a four banger, even with a fuel pump hanging off the head.

Hell, you know what, don't even call it an RX-8. Change the styling here and there, give it a proper fastback instead of a trunk and call it a Cosmo. Americans wouldn't know the difference. Hell, call it the Mazda Wharrgarbl, I don't care.

Great info!
Thanks Guys!
I think I am going to look for a silver 05, and put some dark wheels on it. I am not worried about mileage as I have the little Nissan truck and the Ducati for my everyday commute.
I am still tossed between purchasing a Ducati 848, or a used RX8. We will see how I feel this coming spring.

I got a used 04. Engine was replaced at I think 25k. I have 53 on it now and haven't had a single problem out of the motor. The car lacks torque, that's for sure, but it makes up for it in the handling.

Yea that was my first reaction too when they told me. Then I got a letter in the mail saying the rotary core is under warranty till 2012 or 100,000 mi. If I didn't get an awesome trade in deal I couldn't refuse, I probably wouldn't have it. Fun car though
