i think va tech has one too, car club vt, but i'm not really sure what they're all about, never see them at auto-x's or race event. Atleast i've missed them if they did show up.
a few of the vt guys autox (and some of them are damned good at it), but the club as a whole is more about goofing around on the street from what i've gathered.

We should go down there sometime and support Sam since he drove some 10 hours to hang out with us. Just a shot in the dark....

actually he kinda drove 10 hours to race in HPDE, we were an added benefit
one important distinction, that the founders of the club really stressed, is that we are a motorsports club not a car club. Most of the other university clubs are car clubs. Sounds nitpicky, but if you think about it, its a really big difference.
Clemson's club is very integrated with their academics, since they have a substantial Motorsports Engineering program.
Other schools have a FSAE program, which is something JMU is sorely lacking (but at least we build solar cars.......)

i agree about the motorsports club part, didn't really think about the distinction. I wish JMU was more of a technical school, but i'll take what i can get, i love the atmosphere and classes there. I feel that our motorsports club has an incredible amount of passion for the sport considering that we do not have most of the academic ciriculum supporting the club.
But we are all car guys deep down.
