Andy Wrote:Well when you're insanely rich you can afford to do stuff like that. For example, one of the guys in Ferrari Challenge is the heir to Samsung and is worth $1.7 bil. When you have that kind of scratch the chance of wadding up a $12 million Ferrari (as rare as it is) doesn't mean as much..RJ Wrote:Andy Wrote:That can't possibly be one The interesting thing though is that I was talking to one of the guys on our team who specializes in Ferrari historics. He was saying that for the guys who race stuff like 250GTO's or BBLM's, they'll go get an engine from one of their less rare siblings (the 250GT and the 512 respectively) and soup it up. Forged rods and pistons, ported heads, cams, the works. That way if they grenade the motor they didn't destroy the original which is worth a shitload. They do a similar thing for other parts of the car like the transmission. They can just take it out, and have one of the boutique motorsport transmission manufacturers make a copy, or even make an improved tranny that fits, like a full-sequential box. Oddly enough, Dave said that the old Grand Prix and Formula 1 cars aren't worth as much as the rare streetcars. The reason being is that the F1 stuff is not street legal so it kills the boulevard pimpin' value (he was British so he didn't use those exact words). The even bigger problem with the retired modern F1 cars is that they required damned rocket scientists to service and maintain. This is why Ferrari started the F1 Clienti program.

From the Birdcage Maserati's to the Ferrari's, to the Lola's. But the best sounding group as a whole had to be the race with the all the Shelby Mustangs, Cobra's, 911 RSR's, and that Challenger. Them driving by at full throttle made the drinks shake in the stands at Oak Tree

yeah i know it isn't slow, but he enters at like 140 and exits at 110. i guess if you're limited to a 110 exit speed you might as well scrub the speed off in the turn rather than before?
sigh... if only i could afford to learn to drive in a real car.

The 2nd lap he drops to ~115 - he's probably scrubbing off a bit of speed to get the car set up well for south bend.
But who gives a shit when you can do 172 on the back straight!
