"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Quick, the hippie signal!!!

Barack Paper Scissors... he even beats paper.
Now essentially tied with Clinton in the polls as more people hear his message, Obama makes up for lack of (washington based) political experience with a solid set of morals that he's been very open about. I feel like he hasn't done anything to violate my trust, I agree with his stance on most everything, and I think that he's a breath of fresh air for washington. He's incredibly smart and wellspoken. The fact that he's black definitely doesn't hurt imo. He is consistent, thoughtful, and seems very understanding. He seems like a uniter.

Bill "Gonzales deserves more because he's hispanic" Richardson
Although highly qualified and not afraid to tell people about it, he's not very presidential. IMO, he sank his campaign away from my vote when he didn't come out against Alberto Gonzales for lying because he's hispanic.

Chris "Who cares" Dodd
This guy couldn't shine on a cloudy day.

Dennis "shrimpy" Kucinich
As much as I like this guy's policies, he's such a wimpy guy that just can't outshine anyone. Someone somewhere mentioned that we wouldn't elect FDR today because of his wheelchair... I think that sort of relates.

Joe "Mudslinger" Biden
This guy just doesn't seem like someone I'd trust to lead the nation. Something about him doesn't sit right with me. I think he's an ass I guess. I know... very intelligent. Oh well.

John "don't touch my fucking hair" Edwards
I like this guy quite a bit. I think if people could get over his aristocratic background, he'd be a great contender. I think he was a great choice for Kerry as a running mate in 04 and I think he'd be a great leader.

Hillary "crazy eyes" Clinton
I don't even have to start with this one. I think she's got a stick lodged somewhere. She is very presidential and would do a great job but she's so polarizing among the electorate that I think it would be very tough to elect a president or vp with her on the ticket. She doesn't have the ability to reach across party lines imo. Hell, I don't even like her.

Mike "the coot" Gravel
This guy is fucking hilarious. I was watching the first debate and was getting calls from friends like "are you watching this nutcase?!?!" I'm grateful for candidates like this. They're a sort of sanity check for the rest of the pack. He came out and said he would not use nukes. They were out of the question. For that, I applaud him. He also said he'd be for a filibuster to get us out of Iraq. For his other antics that I can hardly describe as stately, I'm disappointed. Cool... I guess.

Al "lockbox" Gore
I loved this guy to begin with. He's truly a presidential man. He's got amazing credentials. He lost the race in the past and now knows how to run it. Even after he lost it, he stayed active and in the spotlight, coming into his own in the public eye. He's tremendously respected in the US and around the world. He's already a global leader and I think would be a great US leader... if only he'd run. The fact that he's got 17% of the democrats' votes without even running should be an indication.

So... those are my thoughts on the Dems. Their debates have been mildly interesting. If nothing else, Gravel puts on a show. I really think that I think it's amazing that the front runners are black and female. Of the current contenders, my pick would be for an Obama/Edwards ticket. Gore would just spice that up though :-)

Now, on to the GOP candidates. I'll be perfectly honest. These people scare me. Brownback, Tancredo, and Huckabee don't believe in evolution? Holy shit. What a reality check. They all agreed that tactical nuclear strikes are acceptable? Holy shit. John McCain delivered the commencement speach at Liberty. He agrees with Bush on Iraq. What part of 70% disagree doesn't he understand? I think he's the only one with a realistic view of the immigration situation though. I'm just so sad that he had to come out bible thumping. Mitt Romney is the GOP's equivalent to a Kerry. A good guy but just doesn't have enough support to do it. That could change I guess. Giuliani... man o man... where do I start. People complain about Obama's lack of experience. Also, he's been divorced and is pro evolution and gun control. When is his 911, 911, 911 fame going to run out? He's a hardass on terrorism which is great, but what about everything else. Have we really battered the american people into such a state of fear that we don't understand the root cause of terrorism? I'm all for the changes that have been made by the DHS, TSA, etc to combat terrorism. I'll wait a little longer at the airport. But for fuck's sake, who are we kidding when we say that we can fight terrorism? Who are we kidding when we think we can end it by conventional means? What do we have to see happen in Iraq before we realize that it's not our war anymore? Libby is going in the direction of a Pardon. Cheney still thinks that Iraq and Al Qaeda were linked. Bush has lost credibility with his own party because of things like Katrina, Gonzales, Libby, holy crap, the list goes on. That's not to say the Dems didnt drop the ball with this Iraq funding bill, but man, its time for a change. Ron Paul... good for him for sticking to his guns. Seems like a good guy, but I don't know much about him other than he's a wellspoken underdog who has a lot of credibility, thinks before he speaks, and appeals more to me than any of the other GOP candidates.

So, where does that leave me? Currently, I'm fed up with a lot of the Dems for not opposing the 181 Iraq spending bill getting passed. Luckily Obama and Clinton opposed it. So, I'm really rooting for Obama in this one.

Obama was actually up here at school speaking last week and I must say he seems to be head and shoulders above the rest in terms of intangibles. He's a clear passionate speaker and I am inline with his policies more so than anyone else.

And for some reason I just don't trust Hilldog. She seems to be good at talking about things, but what has she really accomplished?

I do like this picture of Hilldog and good ole Bill though. Bill looks like he's subtly checking out the local scenery.

Ron Paul Political Report in 1992 Wrote:Regardless of what the media tell us, most white Americans are not going to believe that they are at fault for what blacks have done to cities across America. The professional blacks may have cowed the elites, but good sense survives at the grass roots. Many more are going to have difficultly avoiding the belief that our country is being destroyed by a group of actual and potential terrorists -- and they can be identified by the color of their skin. This conclusion may not be entirely fair, but it is, for many, entirely unavoidable.

Indeed, it is shocking to consider the uniformity of opinion among blacks in this country. Opinion polls consistently show that only about 5% of blacks have sensible political opinions, i.e. support the free market, individual liberty, and the end of welfare and affirmative action.... Given the inefficiencies of what D.C. laughingly calls the "criminal justice system," I think we can safely assume that 95% of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal.

If similar in-depth studies were conducted in other major cities, who doubts that similar results would be produced? We are constantly told that it is evil to be afraid of black men, but it is hardly irrational. Black men commit murders, rapes, robberies, muggings, and burglaries all out of proportion to their numbers.

I have to say... that's quite a statement. How could you "safely assume" that?

Just FYI, Ron Paul didn't write that, a ghost writer did, and he's expressed deep regret that his name has been associated with it. His own words speak best on racism:

Actually Ron Paul Wrote:ÔÇ£The true antidote to racism is liberty. Liberty means having a limited, constitutional government devoted to the protection of individual rights rather than group claims. Liberty means free-market capitalism, which rewards individual achievement and competence, not skin color, gender, or ethnicity. In a free market, businesses that discriminate lose customers, goodwill, and valuable employees ÔÇô while rational businesses flourish by choosing the most qualified employees and selling to all willing buyers. More importantly, in a free society every citizen gains a sense of himself as an individual, rather than developing a group or victim mentality. This leads to a sense of individual responsibility and personal pride, making skin color irrelevant. Rather than looking to government to correct what is essentially a sin of the heart, we should understand that reducing racism requires a shift from group thinking to an emphasis on individualism.ÔÇØ

5 seconds of google searching (or 2.5 seconds of wikipedia) would have taken care of this, folks.
