I'd agree with that until you consider that the 250hp version only comes in automatic. I guess the 2.0T is the real competitor but you're paying more for less HP.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

If by "automatic" do you mean the DSG?

Yes... shifts occur automatically, hence the term automatic.
Call me old fashioned but I want a manual clutch.

it won't be long until warranties run out and prices come down for software, at which point you'll probably be able to add 50 to each power figure for less than 600 bucks. it's too good of a bargain to ignore.
i'm sure the volvo will get aftermarket software as well.

Yeah, but at least it has, you know, a proper clutch. (Two of 'em). I'm not saying it's not an automatic, but it doesn't totally suck. Or so I've heard. I really wanna drive one.

If I could pull pieces from each model to build a 1337 A3 I would buy one in a heartbeat. If they build one that's manual, AWD and has 250hp I'd be the first to pick one up.... used.

The volvo turbo is also a low psi turbo vs the standard turbo. My understanding is it is just there for the torq (climbing hills, getting the car rolling.
My understanding is if you want a mean volvo you need the you need the S60 R
S60 R (300 hp)
Five-cylinder turbocharged engine
0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds with manual transmission
295 lb-ft at 1,950 - 5,250 rpm
Double overhead camshafts,
20 valves Dual Intercoolers
Three-way catalytic converter with Lambda sensor
Six-speed manual transmission or six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission
"Give me a 300ZX Twin Turbo and a three-day
weekend in the Sierra Nevadas, and i'll come back with the meaning of life."
Road & Track Executive editor, Richard Homan
The s60r looks good but drives like dogshit. I didn't like my friends for anything other than cruising.
DSG is very cool. A cooworker of mine has a base model w/dsg. It's pretty sweet. Well, I guess it's not base base, it just doesn't have navi and leather.
Two feet.
I still like the Mazda 3 myself, I'd love to have one. the rear of the volvo is a huge turn off. But then again, I'm not having sex with a car I'd own, so who cares if it doesn't have a nice ass.

Yeah, if Mikey wants a little coupe, 1 series is where it's gonna be at.
I weep for the lack of a 5 door though.

I really like the S60 looks, sad to hear it drives poorly though I want to test it myself. I really look forward to driving a 1 series though.
so the c30 is finally here. i'm tempted to schedule a test drive, but i'm not even close to considering buying one... i equipped one and it came out to 35k with decent options.
35k! for what amounts to a slower mazdaspeed 3! no awd, no silly power, nothing special... for 35k! i can't wait until it doesn't sell, grab one up for 25k, and then cry that another sporty hatch went bye-bye so fast in the american market.

Im with you Mike.
For under 25k Id be willing to entertain the thought of fwd suckage if everything else is good. 35k no farkin chance.

And at $25k its STILL more 'spensive than the MS3, with more suck.

MS3 just doesnt do anything for me.
Why? Less oontz, more snooty.

Get an A3 and be one with electrical issues.
