The new owner just found a piece of shiny corn in a big chunk of shit.
It would take a solid chunk of change and a lot of elbow grease to make those few cars that would fetch money actually FETCH money... but regardless you're still getting something nice that you didn't expect to get in the first place.
Honestly, I'd be more excited about buying a piece of land near Alaska or Canada and finding out it had a huge ass oil reserve on it =P

i don't know much about collectible cars, but i think that is not the case. if something is rare enough (shit, i've never heard of half those cars) and in repairable condition (few of them are complete junk, looks like very little rust), it's still worth good money.

Rj you should change your forum status to Go Fast Post Whore...you posted 3 times in a row in this thread. On a related note - when does my status change off of boostrot? I'm kinda tired of looking at it.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Seriously. I bet that Abarth in there would fetch some serious coin.

There was a pair of lotuses, too.
Oh, and the open wheel racecars. Those were cool.
1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442
Even an original mini... that'd fetch money. Either way, I'd quit my job if I found that. You could live off the sale of those cars for quite a while.
Oh, and remember, old american cars fetch a premium in Europe.
i believe i saw a caterham as well.....there are PLENTY of cars i'd like to have in there.

Caterham, hell. You probably saw a Lotus.

It totally depends on how patient you are in finding the right buyer. The only real knowledge I have of antique collectible cars is the hours and hours and hours I've watched of the Barrett-Jackson auctions. Only the best quality, authentically restored examples fetch really good money... I've been surprised how many sweet ass old cars in show quality shape only went for like 25 or 30 grand.
Our family used to own a 34 Ford Model T with the suicide doors and the whole 9. Judging from those pics it was roughly in the same shape, and I think my dad could only get a couple of grand for it after looking for a buyer for months. It costs a ton of money to restore a car to what most people want it to be, so most people aren't willing to pay a whole lot for the base car that isn't already in excellent shape.
But, there is of course always someone out there willing to pay a lot for anything! (aka nintendoebaylot)

i think old euro cars fetch more than old american cars... likely a lot more rare. just a hunch, i've got nothing to back that claim up with.

A lot of the cars in that barn wouldnt ever make it to Barret-Jackson - just pretty far removed from the target audience of hot-rods and muscle cars.

Yeah, and unless it's something uber rare, it'll fetch 30grand and not make much of a fuss.
