I thought for sure there were a couple hundred V8 yota cars out there somewhere that were made so they could be in nascar. That's how come there are a few hundred angle-window Aero Monte carlos and pontiac 2 + 2's out there.
You haven't been into NASCAR for a while, have you?
The days of silly "homologization" (right word?) requirements for NASCAR are long dead.

i mean, i thought those two requirements were still in effect at least (roofline + engine block)

NASCAR requires the cars body to match the engine type. So a Toyota MUST use a Toyota engine. A Late Model dirt car is different, and thats what I am refering to in above posts.
The roof, hood, and decklid must have a stock part number. they do not come off of a stock car. The only truley stock part on them is the decklid support inside the trunk.
Technically, the manufacturer must have an available V-8 RWD car. No one does anymore, so the only really legal car is the Charger.

Ha! It's the pre-race show on Fox, and Darrell Waltrip just mentioned that the Toyota Camry is the only car represented in the race that is made in the U.S.
I feel Toyota has some work to do before their first win. I think they're first win will be in the new chassis, not the old one.
However, I think Montoya has a great chance of winning, as long as his car doesn't break again. I'd love to see him win it too.
