Feersty Wrote:Great graph Mikey, now we should see how the recent fall in the housing market has affected housing cost.

My friend lives in Dale City and there is a new development near him and there are 700,000-800,000 houses for sale, they can't sell them, like 8 to 10 houses. The area is vacant with these beautiful ass houses on 1 and 1/2 acre lots.

i'm pretty sure i know where you are talking about. Wink I was house sitting in an area that when i pulled in on friday night... 14 houses were being set up for auction the next day... now that sad! The saddest part is... this area is going to be in the middle of two VERY large developements... SO big the builder had to pay for Rt1 to get widend. they are building something like 1400 more houses! all in the 800k range... whos going to buy that crap?

Mike, you should check out the Post's Outlook section from last week. It talks about what your lame chart is showing.

Percentage of income going to housing in 05 is 54%.
Percentage back in '00, 26%.

The cool part is that FFxCo is upping it's housing subsidy from Median income families from 98K to 110K. Score! Middle class ghetto, here I come.

Why would I make it up, just to prove a point? I pick the wife up around 5 and we're on Constitution by 5:30... maybe 5:40 if 66 is backed up to Glebe.

P.S. - Your chart making skillz sux0r!

i have the option of going that way every day from work... it takes roughly an hour to get from here to arlington... a) you're starting from further away than me and b) your destination is further than i go. i take empty back roads instead and it takes me 35 minutes minimum. unless it is 9pm, you're not making it to dc in 30 minutes on a workday.

You'd take 267 the whole way? How long does it take to actually get to 267? How far are you from it? I really have a hard time believing it would take that long were it a straight shot for you.

We're like 2 miles away and it's never backed up so I'm not sure what you're talking about. It's like 12 miles to the end of the Toll Road and it only takes 15 minutes with a Smart Tag. Another 15-20 minutes to go the last few miles on 66 in traffic and whoolah, we're there. We're I to take 7 or 66 of course it's take longer, they suck ass.

Ironically enough we started driving downtown because we realized it was much, much faster than driving to the metro and taking that. It's definitely quicker after the game... if the game's over at 9:30 we're generally home by 10:15.

I'll film it come October. Tongue

No, 66, 29, 50, metro, doesnt matter. All of them suck.

Going east on the toll road is pretty empty in the afternoon but as soon as it merges with 66, and then again when 66 goes to 2 lanes is a mess and there is always a backup.

Well that's definitely true... but I admitted that it takes just as long (or longer) to go the last few miles than it does to go 2/3 the way there.

Not always I used to make it down to g'town two or three days a week in just over 30 min from Herndon and then from here in Fairfax. Sure there's the occasional day that it takes over an hour, but for the most part it was approx 30 min. I wouldn't have continues to play hockey 3 days a week if it was an hour each time.

Actually where I was in Herndon right off of 28 is only about 5 - 10 minutes from where Chris is in Ashburn.

chris, i'm sorry, but you're high. i've driven that exact route, but shorter, probably 100 times and it has NEVER taken 30 minutes to go my shorter distance.

5 minutes? You are seriously high. From your front door, to getting ON elden street, by way of the toll road is a lot more than 5 minutes.

Man you guys really suck at driving or something. I just looked it up and it's 6 miles with marginal traffic headed east, why would it take "a lot more than 5 minutes"? Shit I get to The Faifax County Parkway exit in 10 minutes at 8:30am every other Thursday. Maybe my watch is broked?

You know, travel time is point to point, not the "x miles on the highway at 65 mph".

6 miles at 12 miles per hour (yes, that is the average rate of speed once you pass mclean on the toll road, i've calculated it based on 5 commutes in a summer week) is 30 minutes.

Yeah except you can do 65mph between here and I66 in the afternoon and here and FFx Co Pkwy in the morning. You go any further east in the morning and you're hosed but it's relatively clear in the afternoon.
