looks good Dizzler! i can't even imagine moving all the pieces of your aquarium after seeing it first-hand.
It looks like your original pics went away. (maybe just my work connection). if they did could you repost them? I would love to see your full setup. I am going to be setting up a tank soon. Either african cichlids or saltwater. the cichlids would be a lot less money, time, and effort.

no prob Baggio, i took those old pics down but i can easily put them back up when i get home.
what size tank are you looking to get into? cichlids are really cool fish (discus's too), i love how they move in big schools. it will be cheaper too, no doubt.
i gotta say though, saltwater is more expensive to start and a has a few nuances to deal with but once it's established....its a whole new world, pretty much every part of the tank is alive. if you're willing to stay with a small tank, you can do a heck of a setup for under ~ 400 bucks or so. it really depends on how well you know the local reef community.
either way, i'd love to see how it works out for you.

thanks man, lets just say i'm never getting a bigger thank than 10 gallons after that experience. remember the drama of me taking my tank home in my accord every summer? yeah, that x 10

I have a 55 gal tank sitting at home empty. I also have a decent fresh water filter. I would need more for a salt tank.
I had cichlids all through college. (Yes it is a bitch moving fish) I think i moved them from hburg to Chesapeake va and then back. The only real problems I would run into with those guys is fighting. Had to take a few little ones back to the store because they were getting beat up a bit.
I had them breeding a few times also. That was pretty cool. Only a few of the babies would grow to adults from each brood (or whatever you call them), but it was cool to watch them avoid and live with the bigger fish.

sorry for the wait. here is the overall picture:
siphon on the far end, return on the closer. in the foreground is my 80watts of power compact lighting and a timer jumbled up with way too many wires:
refrugium tank on the lower level, full of natural filtration and a ghetto home-made protein skimmer that works awesome. the return pump is actually for a koi pond:

a reefcam would be sweet, if i ever find me a cheap one, it's on
John - w/o water circ. or light, the only thing that presents a short term danger is temp. control. that said, things would be ok during a 3 or 4 hour outage. longer than that and i just gotta hope things come back online soon. a UPS is next on my list.

major teardown started this week due to an ever-growing brown algae problem. unfortunately this was not due to letting the tank sit in the sun or anything....it was a result of not quarantining new reef rock before putting it in my tank. after 5 years i'm still making stupid noobie mistakes :?
the dead organic matter on new rock (from shipping to the store) results in a ridiculously huge phosphate buildup in the water that i thought i could ignore because i bought a small quantity of rock and i change my water alot. algae, if you didn't know, pretty much loves phosphates in the way i like tony roma's. now every damn peice of rock and all the sand is laced with phosphates that could take years to deplete.
thankfully i can recover the rock by putting it in a strictly zero-light environment for about a month. i also found someone with leftover sand from another project, so no new expenses or anything. tank has been dumped, refilled with sand, and the all rock is in quarantine. the fish and the corals are currently living in a state of the art bucket. ghetto fabulous!
new tank will be pretty hot. totally fresh, clean rock and sand and i'm cooking up a pretty killer aquascape layout. lost a coral or two during the tear down but i've got a lock on a couple freebie that some locals are trading off/getting rid of. and this time...the MM sticker is going on the stand for good luck!
