Dyno Vid of my Brother's 93 RX-7!

Mike Wrote:awesome looking car. does he daily it? do his own work? what is he cutting throttle at (doesn't sound that high)?

no flames? boo.

Mike- My brother used to daily drive his 7, made about 3 x-c trips from TX to NJ and back. Now he has a "real" job, lol, and is workin in NYC so he doesn't drive it as much anymore.
As far as if he does is own work is Yes. He ported, polished, and rebuilt his own engine that's in his R1 right now. He also rebuilt the engine in his black vert (some guy overheated the car and by brother bought it off him and did the rebuild himself, deciding to keep the car).
For the dyno, ya it sounds really weired b/c of the hub attachment. He said they held the throttle at redline and it reved alot eaiser b/c of no friction from the wheels. I saw the dyno chart and they reved it to 7500-8.

for the flames, I am sure he had some, but the camera didn't catch it. He was onviously getting tuned, so he prob didn't have to many (not running so rich).

your bro has a beautiful car. i've noticed alot of 7's have the intercooler mounted way inboard in the engine bay, why is that exactly? is it more to reduce lag or is the airflow simply better at that place?

and yeah don't worry about the comments....i mean really, who cares?

First off, thanks for all the positive comments, I really app. it. My brother has spent hours upon hours working/enhaning the rx-7s already awsome performance/style. One thing is w/ the FMI, I think it is personal preference.
1. In order to place a FMI on an Rx-7, you have to perform extensive bumper modification/cutting. A lotof guys opt out of dointg this probably b/c the rx-7 is becoming increasingly rare to find/see. They don't want to destroy a perfectly good car/bumper.

2. Yes, you're right, the shorter the intercooler piping, the less volume will have to be filled before the air reaches the intercooler, reducing turbo lag. It also gives the car a kinda sleeper look I think, not having a FMI.

As far as placement, as all of you know you can probably get better airflow to in the intercooler w/ a front mount set-up. Also my brother had to relocate his battery to the trunk in order to place the intercooler in the engine bay.

lol! Ya it has the TRD supercharger and turbo charger on it stock!! It also came w/ a rear difuser (you can't see it) they call it a ghost difuser. Also the car has special edition hub caps and a 20 inch free flowing exhaust! There are only like 20 of them in the world.

A FMIC would look so hot on that car. It's totally worth cutting up the bumper, especially if you take your time and custom fit it to the intercooler. It would look like it was always meant to be there.

The only thing that sucks about it is that it is a complete PITA to custom cut a bumper for a FMIC. I helped my friend install one on his 02 WRX wagon, and we spent about 7 hours total shaving, fitting, shaving, and fitting to get it to look clean.

ya I agree, a FMIC does look pretty sick on the 99 front bumper. I don't really like how they look on the stock 93-97 rx-7 bumpers though. But ya it's not a fun task trying to fit a fmic on a car.

I used to be obsessed with those FDs, got really close to buying one but figured a bigger car was a little more practical. I like the tucked away IC but I guess thats just what I'm used to seeing on those cars.

Where is the dyno video of this Special Edition camry I keep hearing about?

And why the hell not?

I will have one.

Of course, I'm also well aware that it will turn into a fiasco of epic proportions, much like John's Z32 debacle - only I will blow up at least one engine. But I'm ok with that... and whatever irreversible damage to my sanity, bank account and marriage (if applicable) it may cause.

I'll take mine in white, thank you very much Big Grin

Correction: I spoke w/ my brother concering his car and he gave this information on his car: w/ a 1/2 tank of gas he had his car weighed at 2650lbs. (he doesn't have power steering, A/C, and obviously the stock exhaust weighs a lot. Also stock weight is 2789). He also informed me that w/ water injection (doesn't have yet) he would be able to run 17-20 psi (421 rwhp +) on pump gas. With these numbers and slicks he should be able to get into the high 10's, trapping around 127-130. This is not unheard of b/c my brother has seen it done plenty of times w/ these numbers. Guys w/ 350 rwhp Rx-7s have and are capable on high 11's passes. This is made possible b/c the 93+ Rx-7s came stock w/ a 4.11:1 final drive ratio, allowing for very quick acceleration.

On top of this, just to give some history that I was unaware of, when the 93 Rx-7 first came out, it set a lot of performance records for that year.(car+driver, etc). On stock sized tires (225 z-rated all around) it pulled 1g on the skid pad and had a 60-0 braking of 110ft. And remember, this was back in 1993, more than 10 years ago.

lol!! Ya all you have to do is look at the power-to-weight ratio, and it's not to far off from a new Z06/Ford GT.
Ya too bad I live in NJ, he might come down, ya never know. He also said thanks a lot for all the positive comments, he really app. it.
