That is homo to the max J. I would sell them both and get a newer car. Did you know that the Dodge Caravan/Chrysler Town and Country minivans were the most stolen vehicles last year? I read that in a newspaper, I think it was the post. Honda Civic was the next in line, then Jeeps. I dunno, people will steal just to steal it seems. It happens every now and again. The Garage has had several stolen over the years....I could tell stories, but I will spare you all.

I wouldn't necessarily go get something newer/more expensive because of this, just something less likely to get stolen.

Well i've been actually able to think with a clear head. Yesterday i was kind of flustered since i was caught off guard and it's happened to me a few times. I've come to the conclusion that for the most part it is the area, and i need to move out. I can't do this yet due to the financial situation, i need to become more stable and get a base before i do anything sporatic.
I like the integra: reliable, fun, good mpg, attractive (IMO). I'm going to keep it (Maeng - koni's/GC's still for sale? ) , but i'm going to take the necessary precautions to actually make it less attractive to theives. I was talking with RJ before about his quick release hub - i know he said just to get a spacer for less steering wheel play, but i feel like it would also be a very good theft deturrent (would you, could you steal a car without a steering wheel?....not unless you have a wheel with a matching quick release hub). Actually get an alarm for it. I'm not going to install a kill switch since all that will leave me with after a thieves done is a mangled steering column and it not being driveable....again. Until i can find a "safer" environment i'm not going to upgrade the seats or any interior pieces.
I'm thinking a little more clearly now after tomorrow. Financially i don't really want to get a newer car, but the bling in me does. Financially i also don't want to move out, but after checking craigslist i'm finding some "good" deals, i might do it sooner than i expected. The civic still needs to be sold, so i'm still trying to sell that sometime for atleast a certain value. But i'm definitely going to be removing the radio faceplate before every night and not leaving anything in the car that i don't want to lose.
What do you guys think? I appreciate all the feedback, very insightful
edit: this part of springfield is particularly bad for theiving -- tysons/annandale/fall church area is also another area. you can't really hide from it, but certain places are better than others. My priority would be to have a garage. Security and a place to work on it.
I wish you all the best Jay, and if that means getting out of Springfield then that is probably the right move.

might not be for a little while, but moving away is definitely a consideration -- theft deterrance and prevention is first for now.
I still think you're better off just buying a different car that is less attractive to thiefs. I read about civics and integras that are being stolen that are in shit shape. I just dont think you can win in this area. The only reason I convinced myself to buy my car is that Ill be in Hburg for the majority of each year.
Whatever you decide though, best of luck.

heh how to steal a car with a non-stock steering wheel that is removed? pull off the aftermarket hub, slap on a stock wheel. 5 minute job...
the only solution i see is having nothing of value in the car, and add security measures (kill switch, remove relays/fuses, a boot as a last resort?).

You guys need to be more creative. Screw a kill switch, just install a small block of C4 hooked to a cell phone under the front seat. Small, non-volatile. Block all numbers on the phone except another known cell number. Make sure the car is insured against fire damage. Thieves steal the car, you call your "security system". Car will be found in less than 5 minutes. Less thieves in the world to worry about.

"Man killed today while driving to work when a cell phone call made by his girlfriend triggered a small block of c4 sitting in the man's car. Authorities still have not released how the c4 got there, but an inside source has told Fox that the man put the c4 there himself to protect his 'shit-tacular' alpine radio..."

Great idea until your jealous girlfriend finds your regular cell phone and starts calling numbers on it...

wow, gj on timing. sorry to hear this happened. There's just too many assholes in the world, especially in areas like that. I'd suggest moving away, cause if you just exchange the car, even if the threat of theft is lowered a bit, it's still more than moving to other places and keeping the integra.

my reeeems on the Si are gone thanks to thieves...
