Parents just bought a hybrid(pictures)

I don't see a problem with supporting hybrid technology and letting the manufacturers know that there's a burgeoning market for them. The initial cost/benefit analysis is always a little skewed for new technology. A microcosm of this would be MP3 players. Had people not paid 200-300 bucks for a 256mb player 3 years ago, we may not have a 40gb player now.

Maybe we can even argue, the sport compact market. Had people had spent a bunch of money in the early 90s for 140-150 bhp modded fwd, we wouldn't have gotten the WRX, which really opened the carmakers eyes to the money potential of their foreign market cars like the STI, EVO and hopefully, in 2007 , the 450 hp awd Skyline GTR Confusedhock:

My parents have a Prius (since my mother commutes via 395 every morning to DC) and I used it for a week while I was housesitting their petting zoo last month. I'll tell you one thing though, 50 mpg is a nice thing these days, as I'm spending over $150 / month on gas for my cars. My mother spends about $70. In all honesty, I hated the thing at first, but after a week of driving it, I will confess that it was a nice alternative to commuting. Plus driving in the HOV lanes (for the next 16 months) lowers your daily stress since you're blowing by the parking lot while you're driving 85. And yes, the Prius will do triple digits... Wink

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee  that's awesome

in a semi-related note, I saw an escape hybrid the other day. Didn't know they were out yet, good for them! It didn't even blow up or roll-over when I saw it, although I'm sure it didn't last the day.

good for your 'rents for getting that civic!

Yeah I am probably going to grow liking it, just wish they had the funds for that Hybrid Accord, that would have been awesome.

yeah those accord hybrids are great. although the cash isn't really worth it at the moment, it will be in a few years. there just needs to be a market in which to sell these things...and as companies do compete, the prices will drop. i wouldn't mind having and environmentally friendly car at all if they can start to make them faster. anyways, the main idea of hybrids though is to pave the way for fuel cell vehicles. they have some real potential.

Not much of a hybrid man myself. Good idea, too expensive. And the fact that the first two hours of Ford's Hybrid training course are how not to be killed by the car turns me off.

Everyone keeps talking about the 255hps, what they leave out is that it weighs two tons.

yes it is...
as far as hybrids go, I agree with andy about it being necessary to spend a bit more for new technology. It's great for now and I can't wait til they start being the same cost as "normal" cars... lol
