yeah, but there was reason to believe this year with the strong anti-bush sentiment in that age group, and the huge amounts of 18-25 that registered to vote, along with the get out and vote campaigns targeting them, that there actually may be a good turnout.
*shrug*

bingo. your typical 18-25 y/o talks a good game, but doesn't come to the plate when it counts.

If they don't show up to vote due to laziness I agree, however if like me they chose not to vote because they detest both candidates then they still have the right to bitch IMO.

vote for someone damn... nadder... mickey mouse... some redskin was running... the amount of write-ins does show how many people dislike both candidates and to some degree the two party system.

It shows how many people dislike both candidates and the two party system, but it still does no good. So I stand in line for an hour or more to have my vote go for nothing, thanks but no thanks. Trust me if there was a chance in hell that any third party candidate could have won you woulda seen me in line.

so vote for a third party candidate. if nobody votes for them they will recieve no recognition. if they receive no recognition they will not be taken seriously.

doing nothing surely isn't the right answer.

an excellent point.
even if a candidate has no hope to win, getting votes, and getting the candidates name on the results reports is important to building a base following.

there is no such thing as not voting out of protest.
its called not voting out of laziness

fwiw, had va been a swing state i would have voted for kerry just because i dislike bush. since va is decidedly a bush state i knew a vote for kerry was worthless so i went with badnarik since i agree with him on more issues and i'd like to see the two-party system go bye bye Smile

In watching the news coverage they said 17% of voters were 18-29 but this is the same as last year, even though there were alot more voters in this category. The percentage stayed the same because more voters in every category came out and voted.

yes, which is dissappointing considering all that was done to bring out younger voters.

I guess that Puff Daddy just isn't all that scary. Honestly I think most young people don't give a shit, or don't have any clue on how to go about getting registered, etc.

Democracy is stupid anyway.

To you it maybe not voting out of laziness, to me it's not voting out of disgust for the options available to me. I'm not saying that I'm protesting, I'm just not going to waste my time to have my vote go to waste. Third parties come and go so what's the point in "building a base" it'll just be someone new from another group next time. They receive no recognition because they don't build up enough interest and following prior to the election. Did you see any sort of option on TV last night that was tracking the third party electoral votes, no, cause everyone realizes they have no chance of winning.

For me doing nothing was the right thing morally, I didn't like either candidate that had any hope of winning so I chose not to vote. Now I know what some of you will say "the lesser of two evils" well I refuse to vote for someone because I dislike them less than I dislike another candidate. The lesser of two evils is still evil and it won't get any support from me to be put into power.

Am I going to support the country's decision, yes, will I voice my concern if that person starts to screw things up, yes, will I vote in the next election if there's a worthwhile candidate in my opinion, yes.
