Well, great weekend everyone! Congrats Evan! for first place, Chad, kudos on getting your racing license, and Kaan for his Worker of the year. Then of course, to all those who broke down... a moment of silence.....luckly not me (FOR ONCE!).

What up guys,

This is Matt from CCVT, just wanted to say hi. I was in flag training this weekend, nice to meet some of you. I was stationed with Chris and Rex(??) on Sunday.

My GF goes to JMU so if you see a blue FD around it is probably me.

i think i may need to replace it. i tightened the crank bolt, which was a little loose, but it still makes a weird noise. it seems like a problem that isnt uncommon, but it seems to happen to older miatas from what i understand

white_2kgt Wrote:The signal chosen was a red flag followed by a black flag. Anyone that has been on a racetrack knows that a red flag means to STOP on the side of the track and a black flag means to come into the pits. Well this was not communicated with race control, so when a bunch of cars didnÔÇÖt stop for the red flag they were not amused. We were all pulled into the pits and had to wait for it to be sorted out. Once they got it all sorted we were back on track for a warm up lap and our rolling start. Once the rolling start began it started our last and final mock race for the day.

Actually, control knows the red/black procedure....what happened was almost the entire field kept rolling with red flags at every station. We kept reds up until they finally stopped rolling, THEN went to black.

It was FUBAR. I'm just glad it was a drill and EV wasn't trying to get to the scene of an incident. I have seen incidents where we needed to stop traffic immediately and roll EV counter-race. That would not have been pleasant with that many cars still rolling under red.

The red flag confusion was during our practice race at the end of the day - In classroom we were told it was going to be used in conjunction with a black flag to signal a regroup with the pacecar for another practice start, however on track (control, corner workers, everyone but us) was throwing the red flag as a practice stop all drill. I slowed down, but I didnt stop until the T10 corner worker was off the bucket and shouting "stop! stop!".

That was really, really, really stupid to use a Red flag as any part of a "informational" signal. So stupid I cant believe they did that. I mean, flaggers dont even use the word red over the radio (like when describing cars) unless its a real red flag situation. What the hell were they thinking using it as a signal?

In my comp school they used a debris flag along with a blue. Impossible to misconcieve that one, and any confusion with the real flags would have minimal effects.

Chad brought that up in class, I think his words were "red flag means bad shit is happening on track, why are we using it, cant we use another color?" and Unk said 'just this once, for the drill, its how we're doing it'.

Confusedhrug:

I didnt agree with it either, but I wasnt in any mood to argue about it with a dent+donut combo in my door and missing a mirror.

Yea, after it was fed I was sitting on grid, I shut off the car and Laura was standing there, so I asked her WTF, she was like, you guys didn't stop on a red flag. I was like, uh, you need to go talk to Unk, so she took off towards the classroom. I was like, yep, figured that would happen. Oh well. I'm just glad the red wasn't being thrown for a 'real' reason.

Agreed. that was AFU x 10
I thought JJ was going to explode. The red flag means only one thing as Chad so eloquently described. When you hear that on the radio.....it is scramble time.
Now, generally a red flag is followed by the black flag to clear the course when it is safe to do so, but the red ALWAYS means come to a controlled stop on the side of the course.....preferably in view of a flag station and wait for the next signal.

I have had someone ask what the blue/debris flag combo meant (someone not in the school)....we told them it meant "check your mirrors, you are being overtaken by debris".

If you're driving a spec miata, its certainly possible one of these would roll down the straight over your car Wink
