Played around with Ninja Gaiden II last night after renting it. Only played about an hour or so before the premier of Factory came on Spike that I wanted to watch. So far it's not as hard as I remember the first one being, but I also put it on newb mode and have only made it past the first chapter. The graphics are pretty nice, although it gets choppy at some points because I dont think the hardware can keep up. There seems to be a couple glitches I've found too, including automatic character pathing after certain fight sequences are over.... it hasn't caused me to fall off an area yet but I can see that coming.
The game iss pretty much just a button masher with that weird 360 degree fighting interface that can get confusing in certain areas you're in.... it can be hard to see enemies sometimes. The weapons are pretty bad ass though and you can do some neat chained combos and finishing moves. I look forward to beating this one, although I'm glad I didn't purchase it yet....not sure how good the replayability is going to be.

I laughed at the Ninja Gaiden 2 commercial that said in big letters "The sequel to the original"
pffff. newbies
I remember the real original being really hard as well...wow that's a blast from the past.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed apparently is available for download on Live for 800 points. I haven't turned my 360 on in months, but maybe I'll fire it up again for this.

Finally got around to downloading BC: Rearmed and wow!! If you liked the original one on Nintendo this is a must have. It's definitely challenging, surprisingly deep and a great buy for 800 MS points. I also downloaded Metal Slug 3, Street Fighter 2, and Worms haha... I didn't realize how many cool games were on XBL Marketplace.

Anyone tried the new Star Wars Force game? I'm a nerd for that kind of stuff but it looks really cool... I think I might rent it this weekend. I was big into the SW: KOTOR games, beat 1 and 2 a couple of times.

I downloaded the demo but haven't bought the game (yet). I thought the demo was pretty fun. There are a lot of parts of the environment that are destructible and you can use force grabs to throw stuff. I think the thing I like most abotu it is that you can really kill people in mean and nasty ways if you like. Throw them over balconies, slam them against walls, stab them on the ground, throw your lightsaber at them, force choke them to death, you name it.
The targeting system is a bit weak but I only found it to be an issue when I was trying to force grab something or someone. Camera work isn't bad either.
Really the only major qualm I have about it is from the Star Wars nerd perspective. Starkiller is just too powerful. I mean, if this apprentice is this strong who needs Vader or the Emperor? I mean damn, the guy can bring down a star destroyer.
Oh, and the lightsaber should kill any storm trooper or whoever in one blow. I wanna see heads rolling and torsos split. In the game you've gotta slash two or three times to kill someone. So it makes it more like you're hitting them with a bat, rather than an all-cutting plasma sword.
Other than that though it's worth a try. One of my roommates bought it and he said he really likes it.

Still haven't had the chance to check out the Force game because it's been all rented out lately.
I did however beat Gears of War, Halo 3 and BioShock on hard again with some buddies! I still contend that Bioshock is one of the most captivating, beautiful games of anything that's come out on the 360 so far. I finally saw the ending you get when you save all of the little sisters instead of harvesting them. Pretty cool!

Well.
I knew I was going to be impressed but damn.
#1: The opening is fantastic. It lays a great foundation for the story while doing an excellent job of familiarizing you with the control system. The G.O.A.T. is an interesting concept...it's a series of multiple choice "What would you do" questions that determines your skill points. You can still change your skill point spread, of course, but this is a neat way to do it.
#2: The combat system ain't bad. If you're so persuaded, you can run through like a standard FPS, and probably not miss anything. But if you're a veteran fallout player, the VATS system is pretty sweet, and a great way to take a look at your combat situation, and make aimed shots to cripple or kill an enemy. I do wish there were some kind of weapons-cycle hotkey or at least the ability to change a weapon quickly. The PIP-Boy system to change stuff works OK, but something a little quicker would have been nice.
#3: There are kids! And drugs! And prostitutes! (No prostitute kids on drugs though, at least that I could find.) I always thought this was one of the really neat things about Fallout/Fallout 2. You play GTA, and you wonder what kind of amazing birth control is in the Liberty City water, because there aren't any kids around. Fallout wasn't afraid to address the fact that the world's a tough place, and after a nuclear war it'd be even tougher, especially for kids. It was edgy then, and it works now too.
#4: Man, it's beautiful. I was always pretty captivated by the Oblivion engine anyway, but this goes above and beyond. It's gorgeous.
I only played it for about an hour last night before the Caps game, but I seriously considered calling in sick today just to spend the day at home with a bag of chips and a 2 liter of 'dew. It's that good. Even after only playing for an hour and only barely making it out of the Vault, I can already see that there's going to be a second playthrough in my future. There are just too many choices to make to only be satisfied with one playthrough. I was hoping this would be the case, as I so rarely buy brandy-new games, but I think I'll probably get my money's worth. I did this with Mass Effect, and I think it'll work just as well here. Going to go through first as a fine, upstanding, champion of the poor and downtrodden paladin, and then maybe I'll be just a really cruel dickhead the second time through.
Even based on an hour of play, I highly recommend it. If even close to the same amount of thought went into the rest of the game as the first hour, I can't think of a better way to spend 60 bucks. (Or 50, if you've got a ballsy enough PC.) It isn't perfect, and it isn't for everyone, but if the idea of it intrigues you even a little, I think you owe it to yourself to buy.

Nice writeup, I'll have to peep that game!
Finally got around to renting Force: Unleashed. Not gonna do a huge writeup on it, but I love how powerful Starkiller is. I mean you have so many different ways to kill people it's sick. The combos are a little confusing because there are so many of them, and I usually just end up picking people up with Force Grip and flinging them across the map or shocking the shit out of them haha.
I'm on this kick with video games now where I won't play them unless they're on the hardest available setting. I've gone back through most of my old games and beaten them on the hardest setting. Let me tell you, Force: Unleashed is HARD AS SHIT on the hardest setting you initially have unlocked. The regular map creeps aren't a big deal but some of the boss fights are downright frustrating. Some of them took us nearly 20 attempts to beat, mostly because they are so overpowered and some their attacks are about 95% unblockable / unavoidable and do serious damage. I mean I'm talking you could have 75% health and get hit with one gay ass force power and you're down to 10%. The snipers and jetpack stormtroopers in this game are one of the most annoying enemies ever created.. especially at the end of the level where u have to protect that general guy.
Another thing that sucks is that when you get hit, you get stunned and can't really block the rest of the attacks... so if you're getting hit by multiple enemies you can pretty much expect to get punished.
Other than some shitty camera angle problems that are characteristic of games like that and a couple of glitches that we noticed with canyon dropoffs and boss mobs, I've really enjoyed the game so far. Should have it beaten by the end of this week.
My buddy bought Fable II yesterday and is working his way through it... I want to get started in it because I liked the first one but I doubt I'm going to have the time to invest in it.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
