Word. Most of my driving is her to and from the train a mile away so similar and possibly worse situation. I guess that's life with a 3500b vehicle?

So I guess you wouldn't understand how annoying it'd be to have to redo your seat every time you got into it.

We shared a car with no seat memory for 2 years and still occasionally swap. There's no seat memory and it's not a problem... I'm the laziest fucker around. It's really not a big deal and certainly not worth axing a whole model over.

Now seat heaters on the other hand... I wish I never went back.

did they reset the ECU? if so it may take some time to "relearn" the fuel and timing trims and your driving habits for a while and then it might gain some mpg back.

Man. The piece of shit had been perfect for half a year. Warranty is up in eight days so I was really hopeful that we may hold onto this thing. Last week, I noticed the passenger's rear door doesn't open from the outside. Kind of weird, but NBD because warranty. Might as well get that final visit in and this is a good excuse. I schedule online for a few days later. In the meantime, CEL. Car seems to run fine and isn't screaming at me. O2 sensor? Probably.

Just heard from the shop. Water pump. Fucking...

Fuck this car. What's next?

Anyone familiar with aftermarket warranties? That may be the ticket. Quite certain it'd be a winning arrangement for us and then we don't have to go through the hassle of figuring out the next best car for our needs.

Yeah I saw a note on your FB post about dealerships not wanting to work with aftermarket warranties when you need repairs and I have found that they don't usually sell them after the fact either. Usually the ones they do offer when you buy the car though, like the Jaguar Platinum Protection or whatever it's called, are really good and backed by the auto maker. The last few cars I have had to negotiate the extended warranties into the deal, so maybe something to think about next time around if you plan on keeping the car for a while. CPO is okay but kind of a racket because they always start the time from the original date of sale not from when you purchase it. So a lot of the CPO warranties might give you a year - year.5 at best.

For instance my CPO warranty expired 3 days before my MAF sensor went out but fortunately I had the new one and it kicked in. Good until Sept 2019.

I know a guy who has an STi and he had an aftermarket warranty on it. His oil pump went out and then it started knocking and rod went I think and the usual shebang. Initially the company dried to be hands off about it, then he persisted, then the company decided to help, but then the dealer said no. Eventually he worked out some deal or the other and i think they bought the parts and sent it to him and he sourced a shop down here to fix. I'm not sure if he has to pay for it or warranty covered it. The car is just now being put back together. I think it broke in like Feb. So basically what Lee said.

I think you could probably get the coverage with the warranty but you might have to fight tooth and nail....and wait a long time.... and probably still spend some money.

I haven't heard of an aftermarket warranty that covers a rental. Something to verify, given you're a one car family.

I had one for the GTI - not sure what the difference is between buying through VW or what-not. It was technically third party but it was offered to my brother when he decided to purchase it off the lease. It was actually really easy to use, just call up and see what locations accept the warranty and show up - all you were liable for was a$100 deductible and it covers the entire issue duration, not just that specific visit. I had no issue with mine when I had to bring it in, I actually brought it in to a Audi dealership since I had a friend who was a technician there - gave them the warranty account number, handed them the keys and that was it.

The one I had actually did cover rentals as well up to a certain amount, so that was good too. I can look up the name, I would imagine you would have the same option seeing as how it is basically a VW.

Do your dealerships not offer free loaners? Rental car has never been an issue for me for any repair on the last probably 3 or 4 cars I've owned.

Big dumb slow and a CUV but I like it. And it has a turbo (or a hybrid drive if you want to save the earth). And it has AWD. I saw one the other day with this exact interior and exterior combo and I'm not going to lie I'm on the "like it" side of the apparently polarized spectrum:
