April 14th Madison Motorsports Car Show
Julie I'm honestly insulted by your post. I can't even begin to tell you how much time I spent planning this and putting the pieces together for the other officers. I made it explicitly clear that I needed the other officers to step up and I'm disappointed the lack of effort on some of their parts. I made it clear several months back that this day was of conflict for me because of work and I managed both events to the best of my ability. I had all of the key pieces there and a schedule sent out to the officers and what time I would be gone for set up for the halfpipe. I was out there setting up at 9am and everything was running very smoothly in the morning. When I had to hand things off... che e' fatto e' fatto. We tried out a lot of new things this year and I'm excited to set up the new officers for next year with some very valuable key learnings. I do give a shit about this club and I love what we're able to go out and do. Thanks to Dan and Jon who stepped up big this week because I reached out to them and asked them to and I wish I could have worked more with them this year. Also, Kristin was very helpful and managed to do a lot with PR. That being said we should get some Kline's next week.

Now that the show is over can we just give the smoke and mirrors a rest?

If you really had invested too many hours to describe in this then it wouldn't have fallen on its face at noon. Fact is, you had a bunch of big ideas, didn't think through the little things, and your team didn't have faith in you and wasn't capable of working with one another. You spread yourself too thin for the day because I guess you think its better to have a ton of stuff on your resume than to have one thing you did perfectly.

Hearing Kristin complaining about being there from the first thing in the morning straight through was incredibly disappointing from someone who is supposed to be the face of the club. Lincoln getting pissed off about the grilling and chirping tires out of the show was completely unacceptable, and Matt's burned out attitude was icing on the cake.

Cody, because of your other obligations, it was your job to come up with a plan of attack and get your team pumped about running the show without you being there. When to block off the lot, when to get food (both friday afternoon), when to start setting up the show, when to light the grill, who will make announcements and when, and about a thousand other items that need to be thought through before it happens.

Anyway, I'm done, and this is my last post on the subject. The deed is done and there is no going back now, the year is over and you're free of this (apparently awful) responsibility. But can you please have the decency to not stand there and play the blame game like you did everything perfectly. If you want to go into marketing, you're going to need to be able to pull off stuff ten times as complicated as this show, and not being accountable for your actions (both successes and failures) is the quickest way to get fired.

Joey all i have to say is I've managed events a ton more complex than this and I couldn't be excited more about a new group of officers next year, the club really needs it. I've got a ton of key learnings for them and it should be a great year.

Just woke up from my much needed 10 hour sleep coma after getting 3 and a half the night before the show.

All i'm going to say is that I had a fun time, I agree with Julie, Jake, Joey and Tyler on all their points AND well....... preparation is tested come time to perform in anything you do and failure to prepare always shows greater than the good things. I think we had a ton of great ideas for the show this year and although everything was there for the most part, it just seemed like half the show (the little things) were put together during the show instead of being thought out a solid month ago. Such an example is the generator. I was more than happy to go get it and thank you Cody for giving me this responsibility and also to Jon who helped. BUT now every time I get in my truck all I can smell is the spilt fuel that went all over the rear cargo area........and all the smell reminds me of is how two days before the show we were scrambling to get everything together and how it should've been done a week ahead. I also raised the question after picking up the generator- do we have a gas can?- nope we didn't. Do we have that can filled and ready to go? Nope, we didn't. Also- will this be enough to power everything?- is Best Buy, the DJ going to have the extension chords? The response was- I'll find out. Thats all fine and everything but not 36 hours before the show. Look through the big picture and do not neglect the little things. Always have a plan B- thats one main skill that an effective leader always has.......to be able to look through, forward and on every level possible of any task he may have to accomplish.

I'm not going to continue ( why even, the past is the past) but what I noticed this year from exec's were the themes of miscommunication, lack of preparation ( on the little and vital things ), and poor managerial/ administrative skills. I look at it from a whole perspective not at one individual specifically. Not going to continue on this.

Listen, I'm not trying to point fingers and I hate to rant a little and continue to wipe my ass with this thread and cause more of a stink, or have caused the shit storm thread a couple months back after voicing my opinion and possibly cause the execs or other members to look at me with a shit smile but I care about this club as does everyone else and I really don't give a fuck what some people who hate/ dislike me think. I've seen better leadership skills demonstrated by an 8th grader. Seriously....

Sitting a little off in the distance this year in the beginning, building relationships with the alumns and just observing everything that has been going on has allowed me to take note of what went wrong and what was successful.
......This being said I plan to run for president next year and with the outlook of the possible exec's next year..... I couldn't be happier and more excited to potentially steer the ship, not ALL BY MYSELF but as a team.

This year is over. Lets move to next. The slate is wiped clean for the most part, now lets get back to being the quickest and most fun club I know on campus.

Had an interesting drive home. 1.) the clockspring in my steering wheel decided that when positioned straight ahead, each small adjustment would make an insanely loud squeaking noise. Got really old, really fast. Gonna have to pull it off and figure out how to grease it up or something. Then, 2.) had a tractor trailer blow a tire about 2-3 car lengths ahead of us.

Thanks to some situational awareness and racecar brakes I was able to get us out of the main blast zone, but I still got some good rubber smears and I lost the lower bumper grill. A friend gave me a new grill and I was able to mostly rub out the marks left. Really thankful we weren't right next to him or in heavy traffic or this would be a completely different situation.

Can't really see it but the grill is gone and the plate is bent on one corner. I found parts of the grill wedged in the A/C fan, must've been a decent sized chunk.
