The German Castrol blend is significantly better than the std. US gas station blend. Scotty's already had sludge problems with his vehicles... I don't see the big deal with him caring what goes in it.

Most cars arent picky - especially if you change often and only drive it to work - and just about any synthetic (even if its not "real") oil on the parts store shelf is pretty damn good. For track use or turbos you may want to be a little more careful with what you use though.
I dont even know what oil goes into my F150 :lol: I just take it to the shop every 3-4k miles.

i'm really not THAT picky. i just use what i've seen to recieve good results in other people's applications. if doing a couple hours research is considered picky, well....this is my hobby, yeah i obsess a bit :lol:

I'm with Derek on this one. Rabbit calls for Castrol 5w40 Synthetic every 10k miles - thats what it's going to get. Putting M1 in my SHO didn't stop it from blowing up (although it was super pretty on the inside of the motor when I did the rod bearings at 140k miles.) If a car calls for a certain type of oil and a specified oil change interval, why not follow what the manufacturer says? Because some Internet Mechanic on a board said so?

All depends on the application, in Scotty's case, wayyyyyy overkill. On a motor that sees constant high rpm on track, I would care (which is why I do). If I get a beater, fuck it, advance auto shit at 1.68 a quart will do as long as im still changing it every 3000 miles.

Agreed but I wouldn't go so far as advance oil. They've actually had to recall their oil a few times cause it didn't meet SAE and fed standards for viscosity and additives.

if its a beater, it probably was taken less care of by the previous owner, so more likely something will go out before the engine, and in the case of the beater, its a throw away.
On a nice OEM daily driver, manufacturer recommendations all the way, and the cheapest synthetic on the shelf..

first -- manual calls for 5W-30, or UP TO 20W-50 for heavy duty use. i'm using a 0W-30 which is actually closer to a 5W-35 according to how the thickness actually measures out (it's complicated, i can't really explain it well...CsT thickness or something like that). so i'm well within the manufacturers recommendations.
secondly, i drive hard and i autocross when i can, which obviously could benefit from better protection.
thirdly, i want to extend my oil change intervals as far as possible, hopefully to 8,000 miles or beyond in order to be less wasteful and recoupe the high cost per quart. the oil i'm using shears down hardly at all over that time so i PERSONALLY feel better about using it over that time.
i'm not a stranger to "just plain ol' oil." our old explorer used dino til it died (ran great), my old accord used super-thin 5W-20 dino and my Xterra gets cheap ass penzoil platinum. i know my options and i'm choosing what i believe protects well.

Umm, guys, nobody is saying "use a different oil than is reccomended." Castrol German blend is synthetic the same way that Adv. Auto Mobil 1 is synthetic - they BOTH fall under mfg's. reccomendations. Scotty's just using one that he feels is a better version of the product.

ordered up a set of Falken FK452's on monday from Edge Racing, at $72 apiece. got 'em last night, and they even came with some really nice valve stems. so, :thumbup: to Edge Racing.
I really can't wait, i'm ready for some grip! i decided on these tires based on price, grip, daily civility, and rain handling. i also liked the 300 treadwear and many solid good reviews.
next up: ready for some more bling in the form of Rally Armor mud flaps and a Borla unequal length header. later this year i'll look into an opensource tune to take care of having to run 93.

That actually looks pretty good Scott! I really think you should get the STi front bumper splitters (the ones with the sideways diamond shape on the middle), something like a Cusco front lip, and OEM strakes and JDM aeroguards like I had on my old WRX. That is such a great combination!!! And they would look very good with a drop.
