I change mine with the same oil every 3000 miles, and guess what, I dont burn ANY oil. You guys are saying you burn 2 quarts every 5-10k miles???? Seems like something isnt right to me. Thats A LOT of oil. I am past my 3000 mile mark, and im at 5000, but thats because I havent done an autocross or track time on this oil change yet, it shocks me to hear that you guys are burning oil.
For me (personally, and im just saying what works for me), I change it with the same oil, every 3000 miles (usually) and I dont burn any oil, so that works for me. Hearing your guys stories of burning lots of oil only confirms that ill stick with the good ole addage of 3000 miles. I have absolutely no oil leaks (checked when I had everything off my engine) and I (knock on wood) hope I dont have a headgasket leak.
Plus I have a DSM, and according to you guys its completely unreliable (Whatever you say, rolls eyes) and yet I dont burn oil, have no oil leaks, and also burn no coolant.
If your really worried about it or your a cheapskate on your car and want to make sure you get every little bit of life outta your oil, then go get it analyzed, otherwise dont give any conjecture or "theories" by this "expert" on the internet.
:end rant:
as always, a DSM'r defending his car for no apparent reason. yes, i burn a good amount of oil. no, i'm not worried about it one bit. i hit 9k rpms quite often... oil will get consumed when you do that. all high-strung hondas (ir, s2000) burn some oil.
