I definitely agree with you, it's another good option.
One thing I strongly recommended to Derek the other night, and I'd recommend it to any of you as well. Don't buy a condo if you're looking at it as any kind of investment. If you think the used home sales market is bad right now, just take a look at the number of new/used condos for sale right now. There is a 3 year backlog worth of condos for sale right now, so it won't be easy to unload it any time soon.
The other benefit of a single family or townhome is that it gives you more space to rent out to your friends to help lessen the impact of a monthly mortgage. A friend of mine bought one of the townhomes that I built in Chantilly, and he's renting to 3 of his friends ... saves him a ton of money.
