That's fantastic that you live so close to work, I'm sure everyone here is jealous.
Are you married now, or did you afford the place on your own? Could you have afforded that place by yourself as a first time homebuyer with no home equity, in an entry-level job position?
If so, you're an exception to what most people have to go through. That's why a further commute is more attractive than stressing your finances to the limit, or renting for years and years until you can afford the initial investment and closing costs associated with a new home.
