I mean, I know what happens, but having never done it I will be a super noob when I go out. Is there any danger (besides being slow and laughed at) to have a larger top-heavy vehicle with loose suspension (new struts, but OEM style)? Also, do many people auto-X automatics?I've seen smaller trucks (like an S10) on slicks, but personally I'd never do it. Never seen anyone turn away, but never seen anyone try either.
I started out on an automatic and it was great. You stay more focused on the proper line and car control (and 'GODDAMNIT WHY WON'T YOU DOWNSHIFT') without having to worry about swatting gears. Pretty sure there are some nationally competitive guys with them too, but that's hearsay.
The last thing you need to worry about is what class you're going to be in. It blows my mind how much beginners care about that.
Why not ask people to let you co-drive their car? You'd have to REALLY fuck up to worry about banging it up.
