I talked to a few RX8 owners this past weekend, they said it has mostly to do with people not really getting on them and revving them high, the cars that will fail are the ones used in stop/go traffic or never see the upper RPM's.

Uh, with most normal cars, isn't it the more you beat on them the more likely they are to break down?

It's kind of a paradox to me that the slower you drive that car, the worse off you are... LOL!

actually several good things happen when you rev an engine out. Remember, they were designed to do that.
You have to make sure the engine is nice and warmed up, but winding out an engine increases combustion temps which helps de-sludge an engine and also burn of hydrocarbons, and on a piston car it seats the rings.
